Cosmetic Restoration of an 8 track player

Hey guys, I figured I would share the cosmetic restoration of a 8 track player. I spent the past 2 days (off and on) restoring this and I thought it turned out great and close to original. Trevor

Supplies: 1 Can - compressed air
1 Can - Wrinkle Black spray bomb (I used VHT high temp)
1 Can - Adhesion Promoter (Bulldog or Duplicolor)
1 Heat gun or blower dryer
Basic tools: small 1/4 socket to remove bolts from the housing to disasemble.
some metal polish of your choice
toothpicks to scrape off old textured paint

Here is the before and after:

Re: Cosmetic Restoration of an 8 track player

Is that a correct player for these trucks? If so, how and where was it mounted?

If I may beg, Got pics of one installed correctly?

Re: Cosmetic Restoration of an 8 track player

Thanks guys, I felt like helping out today when this turned out nice. It's always good when you work on something to have it turn out as nice as you see it in your head. 100gold, yes this is a "correct" unit. I have the mounting brackets for it, but I am working on making a couple sets for other 8 track players. It mounts under the dash just off center of the radio. Trevor

Re: Cosmetic Restoration of an 8 track player

Nice job trevor! You really did a good job of bringing the door back around. If you are interested, the caswell black oxide (cold formula) will finish off the exterior screws etc. The stuff works pretty good as I have used it on the bolts to reassemble the 4x4. Do you have the correct brackets for your unit? Best I can tell there are at least three different types but one is more correct. They should Im told look like two "L" brackets, however the unit I have is more of a cross over "u" type and the other unit I had used a very similar type of "U". Any word on speakers or the rest of the stuff to hook up correctly? Roger Koop told me a story once about a friend of his who actually found a NOS setup- speakers and harness at a Kansas Swap meet, including the mounting templete for the speakers near or in the cool air vents in the kick panels. Keep your eyes open, as I have no idea what a set of those would look like.
