Paint questions

I am in the process of lowering the front end of my 65. While I have it apart I'm going to clean and paint everything and need advice/direction on what kind of paint/coating to put on the various parts & pieces. Thanks in advance

Re: Paint questions

I used some rattle can rustoleum from lowes when i had my truck apart. I have 14,000 miles on it now and still looks the same. The **** is strong spilt some break fluid and it didn't even come off.

Re: Paint questions

Some suggestions:

Por15 - my favorite so far.
http://www.por15.com

KBS coatings- I have a can but haven't tried it yet.

Rustbullet- I like the result but you better scoop it out of the can or use a can spout cause once it gets in the lid groove you can't get it to seal and there goes the rest of the can. Ask me how I know

Hammerite-Rust Cap- Haven't tried this yet but it shure looks cool.

Re: Paint questions

Would POR15 be appropriate for the spindles? I would guess that I would need to wait until the alignment is done to paint the threaded portion of the tie rods etc to make this easier to adjust. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Paint questions

POR15 is good for the spindles also, of course don't paint the bearing surfaces. Do not paint the threaded portion of the tie rod ends with POR15! After alignment I would just paint the threaded portion with spray paint or you could put some lub instead to prevent them from rusting.

Re: Paint questions

I agree with custom70. Paint everything with POR15 but mask off the threads. Once you have the alignment done I use Krylon for touch up. If it's a small area I just spray it in the cap, and use a small brus to put it on. That's much faster than masking an area, and you get the same results.

Take a look at what Eastwood has to offer as well. I have used several of their different spray colors to paint my suspension. It has proven to be very durable

Re: Paint questions

Do most guys brush por-15 or spray it on? I am thinking about using POR-15 on my frame and suspension parts but don't have any way of spraying it and don't know how it would turn out brushed on. Any ideas?

Re: Paint questions

Ghostwhite- You can brush it on with good results. Just follow the directions on thinning it and get busy.
