Strange disc brakes

My '66 has already been upgraded to disc (front only, non power), as part of the 73+ suspension upgrade. I have a guy locally selling a fully strange brake kit off of a first gen Camaro. What Im wondering is, how different are the calipers/rotors etc? I imagine the rotors would be way different, but for the price he's asking I figured it was worth finding out.

Thanks

Re: Strange disc brakes

Those kits are fairly common. They include mounting plates and bearing spacers to let you use early Camaro/Chevelle or sometimes G-body calipers on your stock drum brake spindles. The rotors are about 11" diameter and have a 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern. Guys who are running car rear ends like them because they can get the same bolt pattern front and rear without having to use wheel adapters or any other custom parts.

I don't believe there is any practical way to use one of these kits on a truck which has had the front suspension swap you describe. The whole point of the suspension swap is to let you use the OE type truck disc brakes, which are 12" diameter with a 5 on 5" pattern.

Re: Strange disc brakes

thanks ray. The front suspension was all done before I had purchased the truck, and the rear is currently still drum. I'll probably just buy the conversion brackets to switch the rear to disc, and go power brakes instead.

Thanks
