My New truck and some questions

78 Chevy Silverado Shortbed

Engine-
350 from a 93 truck 30k miles
Edelbrock Performer Intake
Holley 650cfm
Doug Thorley Headers
Small Cam

Tranny-
TH350 /w B&M Shift kit
12 Bolt Rear with 3.42's (for highway cruising)

Body-
White with small pinstriping at the bottom (wich will eventually be painted over white the Heartbeat tailgate logo will also be removed)
Billet Grille
H4 Headlights

Suspension-
KYB Shocks
Air Shocks in Rear
Lowered 4/6 on 275/60/15's on 15x8.5 Wheels

Exhaust-
Freeway mufflers for now /w no cats (Aero Chambers going on)

Sound System- (From my old truck)
Sony Head Unit
Rockford Fosgate 6 1/2's
Infinity 10 /w MTX Amp

All for $5500, Interior Is clean as a whistle.

As for the questions, Its a california truck and Has no emissions on it because of the motor swap, the guy told me he could smog it since he knows a guy that would do it for him. It will pass the sniffer with everything thats on it now, just wont pass visual.

My question is... Cant I just find some VIN plates for a 73 or 74 and slap them on the doors and re-register it as smog exemt so I wont have to mess with emissions again?

Its either that or turning it into a Fuel injected 350 or putting all the smog pump garbage back on this motor (wich I really dont want to do)

So with all that said...

I will be selling off my suspension that I bought for my '80 and some other things...

Its a DJM 3/5 kit (Spindles/Flip kit /w no C-Notch) $250 (Never been used)
I will be selling my American Racing AR23 rims $300
My 350 Block is for sale (Longblock minus Intake manifold from an 80 truck /w 80k miles on it, never ran hard) $150
Doetsch Tech shocks for a 3/5 or 4/6 Drop - Fronts are on my truck now but the rears have never been on $120

If you want anything off my truck just ask... Not sure if im willing to part it out, but asking cant hurt.

What's wrong with white?

Very nice truck. Clean as a whistle. And one of the most beautiful colors, white.

ACTUALLY..you could do the vin swap thing..dunno how legal it'd be But if you found a junked 74-down, you could buy it and swap the tags, then register this 78 as that 74...

It got broken into and they stole the stereo, but I am putting my old stereo in it. I have a brand new GM Bezel for it.

That is a nice ride indeed. Too bad is has to in the People's Republic. The Vin swap thing has been badly wanted in that state for 25 years. I remember as a kid how much demand there was for it.
If you can find the PERFECT donor (good luck), and the owner/junk yard owner goes along (good luck) and you do a real convincing job attaching the plate(s) you might get lucky.
Your gonna have to make a title too right? good luck indeed.

Well... im gonna have to talk with him about this. I might just have to go to the guy he goes to in 2 years, so It can pass again. Then it will be exempt. All I really need is someone with connections. Its perfectly legal in the sniffer POV, but visual its not. Wich is so stupid to me, but oh well.

What would I need to install on the motor to get it to pass visual also? Smog pump? Its got smog legal Doug Thorley Headers, Dual Exhaust (id need some cats), Edelbrock Performer Intake (not too sure about EGR), Holley 650CFM carb (not too sure wich model).

Id need a smog box and other stuff.

Rolf,
If you need help determining what you need/don't need for smog, lemme know. I'll help you out (as I just had to go through all that crap for my 75)
