Re: New truck

I BOUGHT THIS JUST FOR A DRIVER. IT'S FRESH WITH A 6" RANCH LIFT & NEW TIRES & FROM UTAH NATIONAL GUARD MOTOR POOL.(NO RUST) JUST PLAN ON DRIVING IT FOR NOW. I'VE GOT AN 82 1/2 TON 4X4 LONG FLEET WITH OVER 500000 MILES THAT I GUESS IT'LL HAFTA GO. THIS IS TRUCK # 6 AN I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO DRIVES THEM. I'VE NEVER OWNED A DIESEL...(BESIDES MY JOHN DEERE) SO WE'LL SEE. I THOUGHT ORIGIONALLY ABOUT A 350 GAS TRANSPLANT, BUT WITH ONLY 52000 MILES....HE JUST PUT THAT LIFT & FOUR BRAND NEW 36" MICHELONS, BUT HE'S GIVING ME THE ORIGINAL SPRINGS & STEERING ARM, & MY @SS IS BUILT PRETTY CLOSE TO THE SIDE WALK, SO I MAY PUT IT BACK TO STOCK HEIGTH RIGHT AWAY. I WAS WORKING AT FLINT TRUCK & BUS WHEN THEY MADE THESE THERE IN THE MID-80s WE'LL SEE. JOHN

Re: New truck

Try using a milk crate with a string. Long ago when I worked out in California there was this lady that drove a lifted 4X4 to work and I could not figure how she got in and out.

One day when I was in the parking lot I saw her drive up and lower a milk crate to the ground and then step out, then I knew how she did it.

As I get older I may have to do the same thing to get in and out of my old dump truck.

I'LL PROBABLY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I'M 52 AN KINDA CRIPPLED UP & I'M NOT ALL THAT TALL. (5'7") I'VE BEEN SHOPPING AROUND FOR SOMEONE TO HAUL IT UP TO KY. FROM ORLANDO FLA. IF I CAN'T FIND A REASONALLY PRICED AUTO TRANSORTER, I'LL JUST DRIVE DOWN & GET IT. IT'S ONLY 762 MILES DOOR TO DOOR, & I HAVE A 1980 BIG BLOCK 1 TON DUALLY & A CAR TRAILOR. SHOOT IT MIGHT BE A BETTER IDEA ANYWAY. THIS FELLER GETS THEM DIRECT FROM THE U.S. SERVICE MOTOR POOL & HE HAS ABOUT 6 OF THEM TO CHOOSE FROM. SOME WITHOUT LIFT KITS. I LIKE THE IDEA OF BRAND NEW MICHELIN TIRES, I JUST WISH THEY WEREN'T 39" TALL. I FIGURE IT WILL COST ME $500 TO DRIVE DOWN THERE & BACK. JOHN

Your not short, your suffer from VCS (vertically challenged syndrome).

If it's only going to cost 500 to go get it, I say "Road Trip"! It will cost that much or more to have it transported and who knows what condition it will arrive in.

Re: New truck

Got my blazer last night & it is cooool. The body is extreemely solid. It's just like it came from the g.s.a. With the addition of a 6" rancho lift & 39" tall x 12.5 michelins. They are army surplus also off of a 6 wheel troop carrier. It's 26 years old & army surplus to boot, so it'll need a little tlc in places. Like a new ignition switch, replacing a leaky rear wheel cyl., a new regulator for the hatch (might be a good time to find a power window reg.) & a new pair of manual locking hubs, but i'm very very happy with it. It's the first diesel i've ever had, so it'll be a learning experiance for me. If it gets anywheres near the 22 mpg that several knowlegable people have told me they get, i'll be even more thrilled with it as it's about twice what i'm used to.
