Changing 350 Intake Manifold Gasket - Best Gasket/Sealant?

Hey guys,

I broke off 1 intake manifold bolt yesterday so I will be pulling the whole thing today and need to know what is the best gasket/sealant combination to use for the best seal on an intake manifold for a Chevy 350? Also, what is the best sealant to use on the bolts? Is black Permutex high temp silicone good? Thx in advance for the help.

I've always used oil resistant RTV as a thread sealant with no problems. Maybe I'll look into getting some "proper" thread sealant, but it's worked for me so far.

Just double checked, Edelbrock actually recommends RTV as a thread sealant for intake bolts.

Re: Changing 350 Intake Manifold Gasket - Best Gasket/Sealant?

ARP makes a very good teflon based thread sealer
One of the issues with RTV is it throws off the torque value if you use a torque wrench
I like a product called the right stuff from permtex - this stuff is the best sealent I have ever used
If you disassemble something that you have stuck on with the right stuff be prepared to use a wire brush on a drill to clean it off - the stuff is just plain tough

Any sealant you use is going to throw off the torque compared to dry. If Edelbrock recommends RTV, that's what I'll use. Seems to work.
