Picking the right burb

Other than wheel options,is there an advantage of 1/2 ton over 3/4 2 wheel drive? I just want a cruiser that has A/C P/S and P/B.What kind of fuel mileage is average on small block/big block on both? Hard to convert 3/4 ton to 5 lug axles? Anyone convert clamshell to barn doors? True bolt on?Thanks!

Welcome to the board. I have a 1/2 ton burb but can't answer your questions as I'm still working on it. I think you would have a better chance of getting your questions answered by going to the burb section and posting it there.

a 1/2 ton will ride better, and more likely to have better gearing. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same.

I have a 3/4 ton suburban and my dad has a 1/2 ton suburban. Both are 72' factory big block trucks. To be honest they ride almost the same, although the half ton will get up to speed alot faster, but on the other hand the 3/4 ton is a little more stable when hauling trailers (although both haul fine). If you just want a cruiser than go half ton, but if you plan on hauling car trailers than a 3/4 ton will be the way to go. Of course 1/2 tons are worth a little more and have a better selection of aftermarket rims. As for how hard it is to convert a 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton I don't know. Never done it.
