Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
Well, my husband is thinking about opening a home renovation business - just doing sidework for now - and he talked about buying a longbox pick-up for a few grand to use... but I'm thinking, we already have one! It isn't the best body/paintwise, but the money he would put into buying another truck could fix that. So, does anyone here use their truck for work?

I use my 2003 GMC for work and my 68 C10 for play. Probably NOT what you wanted to hear, LOL!

I see 'em all over here in California - ususally the landscape guys have beat up longbeds to haul their mowers and such.

I use mine for taking care of my girlfriend's rentals. Loaded up with paint, wood and tools all the time. Have also hauled a ton of gravel in it. Tough dependable truck.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I use mine as a work truck. Hauls mulch like nobody's business, plus you don't have to be afraid of messing up any plastic bodywork. It's the kind of truck you don't have to necessarily be afraid of beating the piss out of.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I would use it for work, thats what it was built for anyway. Ive seen several around town with tool boxes and ladder racks. Ive never realy worked out of one but I drove my 65 and my 71 as my only ride for several years each.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
Mine is a 67 dually one-ton with a dump bed. It IS a work truck. Many trips to the landfill, hauls dirt, gravel, mulch, lawn clippings, and whatever else we need it to do.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I use my '71 K10 daily for home improvement work. I will say that I'm looking for a little S10 to help me on saving gas.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
My friend bought this 71 longbed for a work truck, (he did work out of it for 2 yrs) and I intended to use it to pull my trailer and comm. mowers, after I decided I wanted it for myself. (he was already starting to part it out, and thinking about junking it)........but now that I have gotten so attached to it, it will be used to play with on the weekends.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I live on a farm and both of my trucks are used to haul and pull stuff. I need to restore one, but I hate to take one of them out of service. One is a '67 and the other is a '71. Both of them have the old granny 4 speed transmission.
My '92 K-3500 must feel neglected since I rarely use it anymore. I keep it around to pull my travel trailer.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
Im sure you ment as a work vehicle for your actual job ... I use my K20 for hauling and towing etc etc. Cant say I ever use it for pleasure. Not really reliable enough for that lol.
I wonder if it was real pretty if I would use it like I do now. |

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I drive my trucks to the shop&on estimates but don't load em down with cabinets or tools. worked 100's of hours on them . I save the heavy hauling for my box truck. but, I did work out of a 70 1/2 ton long bed for 14 years and she never let me down!( wish i still owned that truck) cheers, Pat

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
LOL. Our's was used for a work bench/storage for quite a few years. Now that we have a 69 Nova, it no longer goes to cruise-ins, so it has been more of a farm truck of late.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I bought a 69 GMC one ton for my apple Orchard. People often ask me why I did it. I tell them it shows the character of what I am tying to do. In my case I want a place where young and old can feel as ease. Go with
it I have.....Good Luck

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
While in OKC, I loaded 48 bundles of shingles in my truck. Rode on the bump stops. Wish I'd took a pic. Here is the truck

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I don't have a real job; but I don't hesitate to use my trucks as trucks.
That's a 1 ton pallet of wood pellets in the back of the fleetside and my camping junk in the stepper, just before I headed out on the road.

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I do use my truck for my biz..I figure why go get a loan for a work truck when it's only going to get beat up anyway? When I do flips or it gets used for picking up supplies and hauling junk to the dump..I also have a few lawn mowing accounts so it gets its share of hauling mowers and grass clippings. They are easy to work on, stands out from the crowd, I am always getting thumbs up! These are not mine but a couple of cool work truck pics

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?
I'm glad to see other people who use these trucks for work...
This is what our's looks like now: I'm thinking some body work and paint... toolbox, ladder rack, new rims, 3/4ton springs to handle loads/towing. BTW, it will have it's factory drivetrain - 350, TH400.
