Tilt guru's: shoe help needed

Finishing up converting a 76 van auto tilt to a floor shift. It has gone pretty well for the most part. went to put the shoes in and I don't remember which one goes on which side. Does it matter? As they look different, I figured it does. Thanks in advance for any help. Below is a pic I stole from palf70step.
