changed rears ot the posi in(71 2WD 1/2ton leaf truck) changed the pinion seal, wondering if the yoke nut is too loose, when I accelerate its normal let off the gas and there is a noise, I can get rid of the noise if while Im braking I give it just a little gas. any ideas?

My guess is probably, I had a ricer 4wd with the same symptoms and indeed it was the nut too loose.

I think there is prescribed torque for that nut, I didn't want to "crush" the crush sleeve on mine and left it loose only to blow up the a$$ end of the truck. It's almost impossible to "crush" the crush sleeve, that's why it's there.

This is a thread I asked two days ago. You might want to check this too.
rear driveshaft/ Differential yoke: I have a two piece driveshaft for my 1/2 72 gmc longbed. The nut that attaches the rear yoke on the driveshaft to the differential has come loose and almost fallen off three different times. Its wearing down my gears. I'm about to put a lock washer on it to keep it from comming loose until I can have it looked at. Any ideas why this is happening and what can I do to keep it from doing it again? Thanks for the help.! Class of 69 Senior Member Registered: Mar 2003 Location: Stillwater MN Posts: 322 That nut should be a self locking one! Have it replaced with a new crimped nut...not a nylock nut, a crimped, all steel nut. |
