First Build! 1968 LWB - Learning as I go

Hello! My name is Jason. I’ve been lurking here for a while and thought I should start a build thread since I have enjoyed so many of yours. This is my first truck and build. It will be a learning experience and any tips will be greatly appreciated. So……… Here goes.

I bought a 68 LWB with a 350/400 setup about a month ago. I runs well and all I have had to do to get it road worthy is fix an oil leak (mechanical oil pressure gauge tube) and put a new carb on it. Now it runs well. Seems to have pretty high oil pressure but I’m not entirely sure I can trust the gauge. I’ll worry about that later since I just started to tear it down and won’t be driving it much.

Today is the first day I have done anything. I managed to get the bed off and flipped over by myself. That thing is about 10 times heavier than I expected. It took all day to get it apart. I started trying to loosen all the bolts but found out quickly that most wouldn’t come so I switch over to tightening them until they broke off. It would have been much better to do that from the get-go. I ended up having to grind off about 15 or so.

I’m sure my neighbors were annoyed with the racket and my truck scattered all over the front yard. My roommate ran into the garage door recently so it is crooked and won’t budge. It was a pain because everything I couldn’t fit under the corner of the door that is up about 6 inches I had to carry through the house to get outside. As soon as the door is fixed the project will move inside. Until then I’ll just deal with it.

I’ll try to put a few pics below. I only stopped to take pictures once so there really isn’t much to show. I’ll do better next time.

Hey Jason... This is Bob, Brandon's Dad.. Awesome that you are starting this project and even more so that you are doing a build thread. Good start with including lots of photos. I had a friend in college back in '73 that had a '68 Chevy, It had an automatic tranny and we converted it to a 4 on the floor. Great little truck! Brandon's '82 is in the shop right now getting changed from a 350/350 to a 350TBI/700R4, no more carb... I might be able to come up with some before/after photos.
It's 2 weeks from tomorrow that he ships out to Nepal. So I'll have to drive the truck some to keep it charged and lubed...
Great build, and I'll be watching your progress. If you need any help just give me a call ;^)

Welcome to the board! Looks like you have a good start so far. It feels like I've seen something like that before. Nice truck, and good luck with your build!
