wheel bearings

Hello,question my front wheel bearing nut is snug and the hub travels smoothley but there is play in the hub assembly,are the wheel bearings worn out or is the hub itself worn out i packed the bearings real good with good grease sung up the bearing and still some play. any help will be great kelly cotter

If the spindle is worn it can cause this but most likely the bearings and bearing race is worn out.

The bearings are tapered, so if they are "snugged up" and there is still some play, something is wrong. The first thing to check is the fit of the bearings on the spindle itself. They shoud fit smoothly, not tight, but not sloppy either....If they have been loose for a long time, the spindle could be worn. If so, it's replacement time.

There could also be a groove worn in the spindle that is keeping the bearings from pulling together, but it's still a case of replace the spindle.

Are you 100% sure that the play is between the hub and the spindle? not a ball-joint?
