Simplest possible replacement carb for '89 inline-6?

Howdy all, in preparation to perform my first ever engine rebuild on my old 250 inline-6 c10 step van I have swapped the engine out for a cheap 1989 250 inline-6 with integrated head. My question: As this newer engine came complete with the exception of most of the emissions gear being defeated and missing a carby what is a decent/cheap workable carb I could use to get me by until my rebuild is ready to be swapped back in? I’m looking for something with the minimum cost and complexity for the application and care not to deal with recreating the emissions system to make it operate correctly (this will be legal in my area as the body is a 1967). I am mechanically inclined but a noob in this arena. Cheers and thanks in advance!

Do you have the carburetor that was on your old engine? What is the possibility of using your old head on the later block? I see that you want to do this on the cheap, but rebuilding the early head would solve your issues with the emissions equipment. You can still use the HEI that is on the later engine. Doing it like this should make it all an easy putt.

Thank you for the quick reply. That would absolutely work. The only problem is I did the swap out so that I may fully rebuild my old engine including the head and carb (note: my old engine is the orig. 1967 engine). I put in the 1989 engine so that I may move it (my truck) around and drive for short distances until my rebuild is finished.

If you really want a good running inline 6'er, buy a Ford. GM had the intake and exhaust on the same side of the head and didn't get any scavenging or cross-drafting, whatever you want to call it, that Ford does. Paint it Chevy orange and very few folks would be the wiser

The later GM block with the earlier head rebuilt with hardened seats would be my suggestion.

As for the FoMoCo inline six...the 300 is a tough engine, for sure. So is a 292 Chevy inline. But, least expensive move is to rebuild what you have.

So, you have a '67 P-10? When I was in 'Nam, we got a new '69 P-10 to replace our Econoline van to transport personnel to/from flightline and to get our equipment to/from Ton Son Nhut (Saigon) for calibration. Ours was a 6-stick with one seat. I'd like to have another one for funsies.

It is a fun ride for sure. There is just something about driving around on the freeway on a summer day with the doors open. It is stock and not that old but I still get a lot of attention driving it but I can't park it downtown because none of the lot attendants up here know how to drive a 3 on the tree. They just look at it and shrug.

I think the '69 grille is different, maybe more, from your '67. I also seem to remember the shifter being on the floor on our shop truck.

So, just to clarify, is there a man among us who does not believe that it is possible (for at least a short time fix) to stick an old rochester b series carburetor on a stock 1989 inline-6 of equivalent displacement and have it run correctly?

You have no electronics on that '67, so what would the harm be in using the carb you want to use, meaning that B-series. If it will run, run it!

If there was any doubt an old B series rochester, with the aid of a crude adapter plate, will indeed run on a 1989 6L engine.
