Hello....new to the board and new to owning a C-10
I just traded a 92 camry I was using as a commuter car for a good running somewhat rough looking 1971 C-10. I plan to pull the body and do a frame off, which I have never done before.....i would like to ultimately bag it, but not sure how soon that will happen as I don't have the experience nor tools to "c" notch it, so I might for the interim put a nice lower kt on it, while I go through everything else.....Any recommendations on orders of magnitude? i think i want to tclean and sand off the original paint and clean up the minor dents then primer it. Is it advisable to remove all body parts and sand/clean then spray outside/inside with a quality primer? Any thoughts/advice/insight would be greatly appreciated!

You've got a long way to go before you have to worry about primer. Unless you plan to do things twice, spraying a good primer and then leaving it is not a good idea unless you plan to leave it indoors.
Take lots of pictures, store parts in labeled plastic bags, buy an assembly manual, and spend every waking moment reading the suspension, paint, and build forums. Welcome!

Welcome to the board from east TN!
My suggestion is keep things simple for now until you learn the ins and outs of the truck. To start with, make sure your engine, drivetrain, and suspension are in good condition. I would keep it a driver for at least a year or two. Lower it, put a nice set of wheels/tires on it, and drive it. Learn the truck how it is now, then look at upgrading or changing things. If this is your first go around with this sort of thing, don't plan on a full frame-off resto. It gets expensive, time consuming, and it's very easy to get discouraged. Drive and enjoy the truck as long as you can until you just HAVE to do a frame-off. Try to find some other board members in your area and hook up with them for advice and/or help. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We're a pretty group of guys here and are very willing to help out another truck brother. There's no such thing as a stupid question around here, so ask away and get answers you need.

Welcome to the boards. I would advise you to do things to it for the time being that allow you to keep driving it also. I have 2 friends that got trucks about the same time as me. They tore them down working on them and got frustrated and gave up. Keeping it drivable while you work on it will always allow you to jump in and put some wind in your hair until you actually get ready for the ground up. That will be expensive. If you can save parts and money before you start that.

Welcome from Southeast Missouri.
I agree with everything above. I try not to have my trucks down for a very long time because I do enjoy driving them so much. One has a L6 and the other a 454, both are fun to drive, of course in different ways.

Thanks for all the advice! All of you made some very solid points...Ithink for the time being I will keep the truck driveable and modify/upgrade on the weekends....What brand of assembly manual do you suggest?

Wise decision to drive it and go at it piecemeal ... I've seen too many "frame-off" restorations end up as "pile of parts" sales when the owner felt overwhelmed and frustrated.
