Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
I had a cop flip his lights on and cut me off by taking a left turn from the opposite direction from me, right in front of me. I slammed on my brakes but it was wet on the road and I slid. I managed not to hit the cop, but the Crown Vic behind me plowed into my chrome step bumper. Wasted the front of the Crown Vic, but didn't even scratch the bumper of my truck. Kinda jacked up my neck. But amazingly I didn't sue. Anyway, the cop asked if anyone was hurt (he saw what he caused). We said no, and he said he'd come back, but he had an emergency call, and had to go. The poor guy in the Crown Vic had his wife in the car. They were both unhurt but upset, and the guy was apologizing all over himself. I just told him I was fine, and there was no damage to my truck. I gave him my license and phone numbers, and said I wasn't gonna go after anyone, but if he needed anything he could feel free to get in touch. Never heard from him or the cop again.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
That's weird. I have a '98 z28 camaro and an '81 chevy (and a 2010 tahoe and a 2001 dodge.) We are selling the camaro and we are nervous about people wanting to test drive it because that thing has a lot of power with all the work done to it.
This wreck makes me glad about all our choices we're making so far. Sell the camaro, only let people test drive it who have the cash, and KEEP THE '81! haha! |

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
This was my 1st square body 84 swb. i bought it dirt cheap about 1yr ago because the body was in great shape. i worked night shift and had been putting in crazy overtime. when i found this truck for sale i couldnt wait, i took the 4 hour trip to pick her up right after my shift ended. i fell asleep on the wheel while pulling the 84 with a tow bar. 84 was trashed but the 01gmc was unscratched.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
Don't worry too much about a rear end collision when in the 1-ton. Previous owner bullet-proofed the rear with this 1/4" steel plate hitch design welded to the frame. Once thought about painting a bullseye around the receiver.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
back in 1987, I owned and drove a 71 GMC 3/4ton with 1 ton everything ( not sure why it had all this) anyway, I put a 6" steel ( 1/2 in thick) tube on the rear of my truck as a bumper, I was coming home one night, and a guy with a brand new F*&d pickup hit me as I was stopping for a stop sign, he was going over 50MPH, other than the killer neck ache I had, my truck was unhurt other than a scratch. He had a 6 hr old totaled truck with the cops doing the field subrietey test on him repeatedly.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
I got hit in the side by a lexus doing 45 or so, i was amazed that there wasnt more damage to mine. her front bumper was moved way back, even dimpled her doors. she made it from center cap to center cap on me.... the door still opened and shut fine. the worst was replacing half the rocker panel and 3 of the cab bolts which were bent. IIRC the damage repair for me including parts was about $900 or so. i can live with that.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
got ran off the road passing two cars at once. The rear car decided he wanted to pass the first car while I was passing him, he hit me the the passenger front wheel with his 4 cyl mustang, I spun out and backed my tahoe into a swamp 70+ mph. rolled atleast 3 times. landed passenger side down with water up to the radio and my ex girlfriend underwater buckled in. We both got cuts on our hands from the broken vent visors climbing out of the truck and were sore for a week but were both fine. Had it towed right to my house from the wreck, let the oil settle back down to the pan overnight and it cranked right up and still drove fine except for the lack of glass lol. even took it to a mud run and pleased the crowd afterwards.

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
i was stopped waiting to take a left turn in broad daylight. I got hit by a 2003 bravada doing 50. he never touched the brakes. It was obviously a total loss for him, and because i had the ball mount in, the airbag sensors never went off in his bravada, the 3 balls and the hook put a nice 4 leaf clover in the radiator and right through the front of the block.
reese hitch btw. both front seats got bent because i had a passenger. all the dash trim popped out. i hit the steering wheel and bent that. i drove home no problem. had a helluva concussion tho. It even broke the fuel pump in half. it was still hanging by the pickup straw so i was still able to drive it. |

Re: Wreck i saw today.... reminds me why i drive a truck
My truck with a roll pan, wins - two! Two full size Dodge trucks to the shop! Why following too close. Truck brakes crazy from 70 MPH. Neither truck had a chance to slow down. The rear is just high enough they hit the rear sill on the bed. My just got new a new tailgate and louvered skin.
