Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
Mine had the factory glide out rack under the bed when I got it....I really don't like the looks of it so I run with one chained in the bed...I have the glide out sitting around for when I start to miss the looks of it under the bed again......

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
you can mount it on the front grill. I saw a Roundeye Longbed earlier today like that

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
When I was going to try to remount my spare under the truck I was looking into the setup off a newer truck. its just a small crane/winch you crank and it lowers and raises the tire while you only crank the handle. they're the simplest way I've ever seen to do it. Check out some newer trucks in the junkyard, usually they have an odd hole drilled in the rear bumper, this is the access to put the handle to work the crane device.

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
A guy at my old job (chevy dealer) he put one of those crane hoist things under the rear of the bed... he also fitted a steering column intermediate shaft that had a u-joint on one end.... anyway, with that shaft and everthing fitted, he could pivot it and not drill any wierd holes.. neat setup. been wanting to do that to mine... just havent pushed myself... to many other things get in the way.

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
I got one of these from an 88-98 truck. I'll be putting it on my truck during the upcoming body swap. Much easier than the ones from our style. Might have to drill a big hole in the bumper or figure out another straight line for the crank.... David

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
I had a "continental kit" made for my spare. It was affixed to the hitch receiver. I've since mounted the spare in the bed.

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
As mentioned, the cable lift from newer trucks works great, be sure to get the frame brace since it cradles the tire and makes for a nice, tight fit.
The old POS swing-out system was terrible, I always junked mine after the first time I needed the spare, then chained it down in the bed after that. I only had to retrieve my spare one time in the mud to make that decision |

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
I still have the spare mounted under the bed. I had to trim the threaded rod since it kept hitting the road when I would turn into parking lots.

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
This is probally why my spare was in the bed when i bought it, lol. Does anybody have pics on what its suppoed to look like or how it functions? Never seen one under the truck from around here, I never had the oppertunity to see them before they all got ditched.

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
I use the spare under bed but when I put the tow hitch on had to move the threaded rod to the other hole and I believe other end too. There are xtra holes underneath for some reason.
Btw I have an xtra threaded rod/nut thing if you are interested, |

Re: whose runnin a spare under the truck still?
What is the best way to mount a newer crank style? I snagged one from work that needs little work. There is a small cross brace where I would hang it, but I am not sure this is strong enough to hold the tire. any tips
