tie rod taper size

as I'm trying to part the drop/disk kit together on my 66 without knowing exactly what spindles I have. Can anyone tell me what the stock top(big end) tie rod tapered hole measurement is? and ball joints too if possible. thanks john

looks like the spindles I have , have a 3/4"taper on the big side for the steering and a 11/16" big end on the upper ball joint, and 13/16" on the big side of the lower ball joint....this match 63-70 or 73- up thanks again

You will need to purchase an adapter for this project. CPP sells them and they swap the inner and outer tie rods.

The larger ones go on the outside (I think) and the smaller ones to the inside. The only was to do this is to buy the adapter. Apparently Western Chassis makes them too. They are nice because they also have a lock nut- newer style.

so what year spindles do you think l have?63-70 or 71-72
will the stock ball joints work,and then I just need adapter sleaves & ends. I want to stay with 6 lug so looks like I need CPP rotors too. thanks for the help

ball joints for both are the same. all you do is buy the adapters and tierods and it will all work fine.

I believe you will find that the ball joint taper studs are larger on 71-72 than the earlier trucks. Moog and the other makers show different part numbers for the two types.
