Long, long time lurker and admirer. Now that I think about it, this might actually be the first thread that I've started here.

Here's my situation -- I've found an attractive deal on a '72 4x4 Blazer about an hour from me, but if I'm not mistaken, it'll only seat four. Problem is that my wife and three children are all going to want to cruise with me.

Temporary Solution -- Considering their small stature, I could probably put a third seat belt in the back, but it would only be good for short trips and they'd eventually outgrow it.

Thinking outside of the box, would it be possible to buy a second rear seat and install them sideways?

I figured if anyone's going to know, it'd be you guys. Thanks in advance.

Ummm mine seats five. The rear bench should seat 3 people.

As to additional seating options I like the sideways idea, like the old rovers. However my hang up has always been how would I feel about the safety of my children in a reworked seating setup.

I believe I have actually seen a third row seat added behind the second one. The tradeoff is you lose cargo room. You could always install it rear-facing too if headroom at the rear is an issue

Well, if the back seat accommodates five, I guess there isn't a problem.

I just had a heck of time trying to find pics of a rear seat to work from. The few that I found only had the outer belts, so I went from there. Thanks! If it's still available, I plan on going to check it out this weekend.

My 72 blazer has a suburban bench in the front. That thing is HUGE! I think you can fit 4 on that alone!

My Blazer back seat came stock with three seat belts. I can fit three adults comfortably in them. I would be interested in seeing pictures of a sub bench installed up front as well.

I tried a bench in my blazer, years ago. I made it so the back of the seat folded forward. It was still a major P.I.T.A. to access the back seat.

I'm with turp! Here are some pics of the 'burb bench in a 72 blazer. It has 4x4 plates under the cab to reinforce the mounts of any pull through. My kids just jump on it and over. I'm pulling it and have some Scat/Procars next.

It's the same size physically, but the suburban seats have skin on the back covering the springs.
Also the sub backseat is the same as the blazer backseat.

It has the mounting holes for the armrests. The PO had it installed. It doesn't tilt so the kids just jump over it. It's solid mount so no sliders or anything. That's the reason it's coming out. My wife isn't that tall!

Here we are a month later and I find a new CL ad for a similar truck in the same vicinity. Exchanged a few emails and found out it was the original poster. Trying to make arrangements to check it out next weekend.

I have a 60/40 split bench from a 98 Silverado extended cab in mine. The seats slide and tilt and I have seating for six. It has a fold-down center arm rest.

I made an adapter plate out of 1/8 steel so I could mount it using the stock holes. I have pics if you want them but I'll have to remember where I stored them on my computer.
