Yes I am. I just want to make sure they are right before I weld them.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well today I got the rear tank strap mounts made and tacked on and the tank is now supported by the straps!

Also rolled the frame out of the shop to clean the shop up, snapped some pictures so you can see the whole frame.

Only got half of my shop cleaned, its starting to look like its going to rain and didnt want the drivetrain to get rained on.

Now I just need to make sure I know what size I need for all my fittings and know how many I need. Then weld those in and weld the top on and I will pressure test it then.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well i got some more stuff done on the truck today and managed to spend my whole last pay check on some more parts.

Ground down the ugly ass welds that I had on the outside of the tank.

I then moved on to make the rear sway bar work again.

I order new brake lines tonight as well and I needed to get the shocks mounted where I wanted them before I got the brake lines and started running them so I also got the shocks tacked up today.

Should be getting some parts in next week and be able to finish up the fuel tank and then I will probably be broke and have nothing to do for a while haha

Thanks for the idea on the fuel tank filler I've been having the hardest time trying to decide where to mount mine since I've done my burban tank swap.

No problem man, I put my ideas on here so other people can use them as well!

Well today was kind of exciting, I had been waiting on a box to show up.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Been looking at ways to mount the turbo and I think I have kinda came up with a plan. Before I really get into it I need to stick my cab and a front clip on the truck to make sure I have enough room for my idea. Pretty sure it will have to move forward a little bit tho.

Hoping to make a mount that comes off of the exhaust flange that ties into the motor and then a bracket going down from that to around where the motor mount bolts. Then 5" exhaust out the wheel well back to my 8" stack that I will be running.

If done right stacks are awesome! I mean, what's cooler than big shiny chrome pipes spewing black smoke out of the top?

Sweet build man, I don't know how I missed it, going to be one hell of a truck.

I am always glad to see another classic Chevy with a Cummins sitting between the fenders.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well have not been able to mess with the truck that much as I have wanted, but for good reasons. All I got done today was the fitting for the fuel outlet on the tank. I put it on the drivers side and put it at the rear end of the sump.

Hose end fitting screwed on.

Hopefully I can get some more time soon so I can get the two returns welded into the top of the tank and weld the top onto the tank and pressure test it.

Worked on the fuel tank some more today. Its getting really close.

Got my drain welded in the bottom.

Got the two return line fittings in and also the auxiliary tank fitting as well.

Yeah I was not planning on making a custom fuel tank but after looking at all the options I could find for my truck making a custom tank was by far cheaper than getting one made and I have enough confidence in my abilities to try to tackle it. So far it is looking exactly as I designed it and its coming along pretty easy. But I am glad I decided to because I think it's nice to know how to make a tank.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Got the tank all welded up and got it pressure tested. Did some more work on the tank straps and wanted to make sure everything fit good so I stuck the tank in the truck.

Looks like everything fits just the way that I wanted it to. Going to start working on the filler neck some time soon and get the brake lines made and I should be able to start tearing the truck back down so I can finish up some welding and start spraying some paint.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I started relocating my rear shocks but I am not sure exactly where I should mount them. I have two places that I think will work best, but not sure which is better.

I first started making them mount here. It will clear everything with new top mounts.

But after making the lower bracket for mounting there I decided to look at mounting them back inside the frame.

Now on this setup the top bolt would be turned to match the bottom one.

One reason why I like them behind the axle and on the outside of the frame is that it will allow for me to have more room to make an anti-wrap bar.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Got the shocks for the rear mounted.

Next is to work on getting the proportioning valve mounted and getting the brake lines made for the frame. Then I should be about ready to tear it apart and finish a lot of welding and paint the frame.
