A vacume canister. Some had the more modern plastic ball, some had the coffee can looking deal.
My old blue one had the same as fatman's. I sold it to someone on here a couple months ago.

I believe the older 67-69 AC equipped pickups had the soup can looking vacuum canister and the 71-72 had the plastic ball looking canister. Not sure about the 70 model trucks. I had an old 69 parts truck and it had the soup can one. My 71 and 72 trucks have the plastic ones.

Mine was a 70.
I was always under the same impression, however, I get ppl here who own all years asking what the can was for in the old longhorn, so I kinda asume it was an either or type thing.

How did the monster 6 do? MPG? Top speed? Power?
Did the dolly screw up your bumper?
Seeing that you have a new Thermostat housing, you may want to pull it off and look at the intake. I have seen/heard that tehy like to rust out there for some reason. If it is bugared up, I have access to a couple.
Matter of fact, if you want any parts off of a 305, let me know and I'll try to grab them here for you.

The Longhorn didn't do too bad at all, I was probably getting 6-7 miles a gallon, just guestimating here, as it used more than a full tank in the way back

The fastest I took it to was 62 mph, as it doesn't have a tach in it and I didn't know how my RPM's were, because I know these motors weren't made for high revving, the power was there, not too impressive, but compared to a V-8 it held its own, from take off and at cruising speeds, just need to put a 500 cfm holley carb on it to make it all better

I had to take the dolly's fenders off, because the front bumper kept on hitting them while going up the ramps.

BTW, any recommendation on what kind of aftermarket tach would work good on this motor? auto parts guy told me that any would work

Yeah, he is right. Any tach will work.
We can do an HEI conversion on that too if your interested. I think I can get my hands on everything we need to do it.

Thanks for the info on the tach man, I already have one, I just didn't know if it would work with this motor or not.
