Do I need to splice into my fuel guage wire ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have installed a rear tank with the sending unit in it and all grouded and a wire running through the firewall to under the dash .

I have a harness that carries the wires form the fuel guage to the fuse block . Not sure what wire is the fuel guage wire.

I see there is a fuel guage plugin the fuse block but not sure what it is for .

My question is this: What do I need to do to complete the hook up .

thx as always if you can get me going on this ..

The fuel tank sending unit wire should plug in the fuse panel. The rest are internally in the loom and printed circuit.

What I have now is a 50/50 situation.. another guy said to hook it directly to the Guage..??
I looked at the wiring diagram but I dont see real well and cant read whats what or tell colors very well ,,so was hoping someone would just tell me step by step how to do it from what they learned in doing so..

and also thx for the this Url ,,it's full of help ideas.

i would seem to think hooking it up to the fusebox in the fuel gauge slot would be the right since it worked on the factory tank

and will carry it to the gauge anyways ya know

You and John have to be right ,,what the heck would the plug be for at the fuse block.. if were not for the sending unit,,just wanted to get it right the first time I hooked it up..thx HubScrub,,

Whats wrong with moving the origional wire out of the cab and extending it to the new sending unit??? Or is this in addition for more capacity??

Just a thought and what i had in mind but i didn't recive a harness.

When the cab was taken off for painting ,,no wire was left to the gas tank that was behind the seat..I have a new tank in the rear now ,new sending unit and new wire that reaches the fuse box and now will hook it up to the prong marked fuel guage .. the wires in the harness from the guage are still intact so I should have this figgered out ,,thx anyway as I need help and got lots of it..

now ,,it's extending the purple wire to the silinoid that was cut to short and figgering out what other wires that I need,,but this is another thing altogeather.. thx swamp rat I appeciate all the help I get on this..

Sorry, not sure if you've got the fuel guage figured out or not. Just ground the sending unit with the wire on it, run a new wire from the terminal on the top of it to the fuse box and you should be in business.

Only other thing you might want to check is the fuse in the fuse box for the instrument panel. My gas guage quit working and turned out I had blown the fuse. Now the gas guage and temp guage work.
