#3 The Sickness Continues

Well, number three is here .........I've wanted a driver type truck for awhile and I found it; back in June'10. I liked the truck but was too busy and didnt feel it was the right time. It sold and went away until looking thru Craigslist it magically appeared again. I went and checked it out and it was generally the same and bought it. I figured I wouldn't get another chance.

Here are a few details: 1966 LB Custom Cab big window, 283/t400. Had air at one point and is fairly clean. Typical rust issues for the make but is still a 20 footer with no problem.

Plans include........disc brakes and lowering, tool box, big tires, and trips to Home Depot and side work. Check it out.......more later.

I too have the sickness. Nice find man. It's a little tall, but for Home Depot runs, that's not a bad thing. LOL

As you well know, irish, the extra parts start to pile up!! I have some 4''HD rear along with some 1'' front coils left from my 'burb after I bagged it. Along with some spindles it should be a little easier to climb into.

Like the sound of that. A good weekend of work and she'll be skimmin the speed bumps. I love the fact that she's a BBW though. Makes her alot prettier. That's prob my next project on all of mine.

Yeah, we'll see how this goes, but it runs well so I'm happy about that.

Jump on it bubba.....I know you dont want to throw out all those extra parts!!

OK; havent had much time to mess with this thing but I am slowly taking inventory of stuff that needs attention and what I have in stock. PO said it got bad mileage; I wonder if he ever thought to change the air filter...I cant see through it!! Also dug out a spare dizzy my friend gave me and threw on a new cap and rotor....going HEI asap. Still have the blue plug wires from my BBC that will match nicely. They appear to be nearly brand new. Started spraying degreaser on stuff to clean it up. Here are a couple pics:

Nice addition Jeff

There's bound to be several things you can do to try and increase the MPG's. A good tune up, and maybe some tweaking on the carb. What carb does it have? I've found a +1MPG increase in just switching to an HEI.

Thanx Cap'n!! It's currently sporting an Edelbrock 1406 which I believe is a 600cfm unit. I'm pretty sure the air cleaner will help along with a set of plugs. I will at some point be doing a service on everything.

One hindrance to better mileage may be the t400. It's a little HD for the 283. I also dont know what the PO was used to driving; he had 2 econoboxes in the driveway.

Hi, my name is Dave and I'm a "Chevaholic"

This is the 12 step program to being broke, frustrated, reading numerous build threads and to having busted up knuckles and scraped up forearms. (But sooooooooooo feckin worth it)

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

I got a good chance to look over the truck and degreased the engine today. It's looking a lot better. I also rolled around underneath and shot penetrating oil on everything suspension related. The rear axle is clean and it has a one piece driveshaft that looks very new. The t400 is very clean also. I will move the trans cooler up to the front as its currently sitting under the passenger side floor board.

The front end is tight so I think I'm going with the new disc kit that uses the original ball joints. The manual steering box has a slow leak; I have another and may get that rebuilt.

The big progress for today was the tailgate. This truck must have not been running one for awhile. Two bolts were broken off in the drivers side hinge location and the PO had tried to drill them out. He quit there and gave me a bunch of pricy new tailgate hardware. I continued drilling as I have a drill set that steps up in 64th's. With about 1/2 can of oil, 1/2 my tool box, and beating on them they finally gave up. I re-tapped the holes and bolted on the tailgate. I had to chase the good holes 6 times before they would go smoothly!!

Here's the pic...........notice the puddle of penetrating oil

I'm from Illinois, so I know what you mean......out here the sun and heat seems to kill the seam sealer at the top of the cab and everything runs down in and they still have the typical floor pan and rocker issues.

A typical add around here should really read something like this

I have a slightly rusted interior rear view mirror that runs and drives well around the yard needs slight rust work but I have the patch panels
