Can I get door locks made to match my ignition key?

I just swapped my ignition lock cylinder out for the one from my parts truck because it was super worn. The new cylinder takes a type "E" key, which doesn't fit my existing door locks. Can I have door locks made to fit my key? If so, would it be cheaper just to buy a whole new set of locks? If not, how can I go about modifying some door cylinders to work with my key? I imagine I would need to remove the pins and replace them with pins of the right height... any idea where to get those?

Also, what year trucks or cars used the "E" keys? My '68 has type "C", and the "E" key doesn't fit the door locks on my donor '72...

TIA

see if you can rekey the old ones first- i do that all the time on VWs but I dont know about GM stuff. If not, the full lock sets are really pretty cheap- that's what I did because I wanted one key.

I can't rekey the old ones to match my new ign cylinder because they take different types of keys. Maybe my best bet would be to get a new C type ign cylinder and have it re-keyed to match my door? I'm pretty sure switching out the pins would be pretty easy but I can't find any source for pins online.

rekey means you go to locksmith and he changes the pins in the tumbler so everything works on one key//yellow pages look under locksmith and give a local cfaftsman a call

Why not just take the door locks from the parts truck too? Either way you have to pull the locks from your truck.

I don't think that's possible because the difference between the C and E key types is in the groove patterns, and those I believe are cast into the lock cylinder. Here's a helpful website that I found:

The door locks on the parts truck don't match the parts truck's ignition key!

How much do you charge for shipping to 27613 Wes, and what brand do you carry? I'm a minimalist at heart and that means re-using everything that I possibly can, but if I decide to go that route I will give you a ring.

Re: Can I get door locks made to match my ignition key?

While we are on this topic, I noticed (after trying for about an hour to turn it...) that the ignition cylinder on my 68 doesn't have an accessory position! What's up with that?

Re: Can I get door locks made to match my ignition key?

Classic Ind had them. I bought an Ign and both door locks that work with 1 key for my `70 part #TK104 for $26.95 in 2008. They work great.

Re: Can I get door locks made to match my ignition key?

Yes you can buy a lockset that is all keyed the same. I understand what you are saying about the key types and grooves. That is what I ran into on the suburban. I got a matching ignition/lock set, but the rear hatch is a different type key and cant be remeyed to the same keys as the other keys. They also don't repro the rear hatch locks. If I were you I would just buy a new match set and be done. JMHO.

Here is some info I posted that tells what year trucks use what keyway...

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=213860

Just a technicality but the chevy lock cylinders don't use pins, they have wafers in them.

I have a couple of good used "C" keyway ignition cylinders that I could rekey to your door locks if you want to go that way. I also have a couple of extra, new door/ignition sets for $30.00 shipped and a couple of door/ignition/glovebox sets for $40.00 shipped. PM me if you are interested.

To the best of my knowledge, all 67's, and some early 68's didn't have an accessory position.
