pics of home compressor set ups please.

looking to see how you set up your compressors.
curious because i picked up a 60 gallon, and it said i needed a shut off valve, filter, and regulator.
so i bought the parts, not sure if i bought wrong parts tho...maybe too small?
im also runnig 1/4in 100 ft hose.
should i be bigger coming out of compressor and stay big the whole way out?
1/4 piping,valve,filter, regulator too small???
could that be the reason the air wrench would not turn nut???
thanks for any help as always and pics of your set ups might help me here.

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

The hose being too small is the reason the impact wouldnt turn the nut. Here this might help. Shows the difference in the amount of air that will flow through a given size pipe. I dont have any pictures but im piped 1/2 inch off the tank then a 3/8's inside diameter air hose from there. Your hardly getting any air at all at the end of 100ft 1/4 inch hose. 1/2 inch line flows over triple what a 1/4 inch line will. 3/8's flows over double what a 1/4 inch will. Your DA sander will work dramatically better with bigger lines.

3/8 line has 1/4 in ends? Lines bigger but ends are smaller?

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

I believe it's 3/8" out to the hose connection. Hose is 3/8" but has 1/4" connects (common)

Ignore the extra hook-up, when I was running my cheap DA or needle scaler I had a 2nd small compressor "piggybacked" to aid in the air supply.

Mine also had to be mobile as I don't have a garage, so I tried to keep things compact. Also, when I was using a lot of air, I'd run a hose overhead, coiling the extra into a waterbucket, and ran a second water seperator. This would help cool the air and removed a bunch of water.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

well here is a pic of what i am trying to work with....

and here is a pic of a problem i am running into...not quite sure why but water!!!

when i was running the 1/4 in piping and hose, i noticed that after using guns and sanding or whatever, i would put an air chuck on and blow area down...
and seemed like drops of water would make it thru air chuck??

changed over to 3/8 and now the water in them pics at fitting is at the gun end....

what am i doing wrong??

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

Need to move the air dryer farther away from the compressor. It's not letting the air cool down.

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

yea, guess that might help... was just reading something about putting it too close, not letting air cool so im sending water straight thru..
think i might take a couple measurements and send piping towards block wall behing compressor and up, out towards door exiting basement. and then put the filter somewhere along the way. hope that helps.
and i guess if there is water slipping out of hose connection, if and when i solve water problem, i have to address air right. if waters getting out, air is too.
much to learn about things....
i was just eager to try bodywork on truck so i went and bought compressor, and tools and stuff.

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

Try to run the pipe up then make the dryer the low point too. Just snug the fittings up a bit and they will likely seal. A lot of time on the hose itself you dont even need any sealant. If air is leaking you will hear it.

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

How much difference in temperature is there between where the compressor is and where the end of the hose is?

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

i was having some of the same issues with water with my compressor set-up also, so i did some looking around at what was being sold for plumbing and used the pics and headed to the big box hardware store, come out with a load of 3/4 pipe and lots of fittings, also bought the drier from a place online, and other line has a oiler . sorry not very good at explaining things on here but hope this helps . it don't look pretty but works which is all i need...

Re: pics of home compressor set ups please.

20 yrs. ago I attended a seminar put on by Sharpe spray equipment, we were told the rule of thumb was to keep water traps a min. of 25' from the compressor to allow air to cool, all vertical lines need to end with a drip leg and drain valve, any air outlet should be taken off the top of horizontal lines and off the side of vertical lines, last but not least use the biggest lines you can afford.
Above pics. are a very good example! When designing a system keep in mind that any water collection in a line needs a way out.

Craig
