Electric Fan Size help

Well I have built a 383 and started it last night. Was going to break in the cam and brought the RPM up to 2000. The 5 paddle fan that I had secured to the water pump broke sending it into the radiator and destroyng the radiator, shroud, crank pully and water pump.

So the rebuild begins! I am going with electric fans now but not sure what size CFM the truck needs. Can someone advise what size fan I need to run and the best place to purchase them from

1987 Chevy R10, 383 stroker, Comp Cam 280H, Vortec heads, Airgap intake with a Holley 4160.

Re: Electric Fan Size help

I run a cheapie 16" single s-blade fan that I got off ebay and an aluminum shroud. Keeps my 383 cool with the a/c on high in 100F+ ambient temps.

Re: Electric Fan Size help

I am running a 383 with electric fans. I chose the dual 11" fans that comes from SPAL. I bought mine off of Summit Racing under the "Be Cool" dual fans identifier. The fans are rated at 2850 CFM each and normally I only have to run one, but it is always nice to have another available if needed. I also run this fan setup on my DD (91 Chevy Silverado with a 5.7 liter engine).

I'm not sure what brand it is, I got it from seller "skipwhite" on ebay. It came in a plain white box, but it's been in the truck for over 4 years and 35k+ miles and hasn't skipped a beat.

Re: Electric Fan Size help

When using electric fans, max is the best. A Mark VIII fan, jeep or Viper fans work the best. Best options include, dual speed or variable (with a speed controller). I rund dual LS1 fans from a 2000 Camaro.
