Re: 68 Anniversary....what's it worth?

Well, shook hands tonight on this thing. I told him I need to give it a good going over this weekend in the light before I give him some $$. Truck spent most of it's life in Yucca Valley and only has about 70k miles on it! I'm pretty jazzed about building another truck......just gonna be awhile before I can really dig into it. Though it's hard to resist wanting to go as far as I did on my 72, I really want to do a late model LS swap and make it a super nice driver.

Hey Rene.....how much for that bed?!?!?!

Congrats, Jim - another mouth to feed! But if you do it anywhere near as nice as your '72, it's gonna be one beautiful truck. Keep us posted with pictures!

I'm subscribed ..... Shorty all the way. And I would think anything less than 4000.00 is a great buy .... !

Re: 68 Anniversary....what's it worth?

One time, a friend of mine asked what my truck was, I said "68 3/4 longbed."
He says "ewwww, chop it down to a short and do a 5 lug conversion"

I simply told him, "if I wanted a small truck I'd go by a Datsun and put a SBC in it"

Well Jim, did you pull the trigger? And by the way, the wood bed is available.

Re: 68 Anniversary....what's it worth?

Done deal.....paid the guy last weekend! It's still sitting in his driveway and I hope to get it this weekend if I have time. It sure is a straight old truck and about as rust free as they get.....just wish it was a shortbed. I don't mind shortening the frame but I think I'm gonna have to find a shortbed. After looking at the various ways of cutting down a longbed, it just seems less than ideal since the beds have a sloping body line.....we'll see. When I get a chance I'll take some detailed pics and post.

Re: 68 Anniversary....what's it worth?

Well finally got this thing home and snapped some pics.

Pretty clean mostly original truck...I'm really struck by how straight and relatively dent free this thing is. Original owner decided to butcher the bumper and put some driving lights in and you can tell it was a long time ago cuz the driving lights look really old! From the emblems on the cowl, it looks like the truck was originally purchased in Tulsa, OK from Bill White Chevrolet and somehow made it to Yucca Valley, CA where the po's dad traded some house painting work for it. When he passed away a number of years ago the po brought it up here to the Sacramento area. He claims the truck only has about 70k miles on it.

Truck originally had a 3 on the tree and 307. The po had a 70 C10 at some point and decided to pull the motor, tranny, power brakes, and column from it before junking the truck.

If you look at the lower left hand corner of the picture below, you'll see how the rad support is notched for the condenser lines and it looks factory....is this how they did it? Glovebox sticker says it is a air truck.

Nice score Jim you got my thumbs up.
Man that truck is almost identical to my son Jesse's truck.
Now it's time to make it better and shorter.

Re: 68 Anniversary....what's it worth?

Thanks Rene.....pretty excited to have another project. When did you pic up that one?.....plans with it?

You can have the floor mat if you want!......you talking about the clear rubber floor mat?

Did you see the pic above that shows the top of the pass side rad support.....did they do that notch from the factory? I looked all over at diff pics and couldn't find anything similar.
