Yea... It must be down or all jacked up.
Here you go:
4C254H136128
"4" = 1964
"C" = Conventional (2WD)
"25" = 3/4-Ton
"4" = Pickup
"H" = Assembly Plant - Oakland, CA
Vechicle Production Number -- 136,128

Tell me the rest of your info off your plate!

Re: Vin Number query

Production moved from Oakland to Fremont in mid 1963. The vin will say H for 64 models, but they were actually built in Fremont. For the '65 model year the code was changed to Z.

Re: Vin Number query

It is also the 36,128 made for that year, not 136,128. All vin #'s start with 100,000.

Interesting. I didn't know that. So my 64 was really made in Fremont too. I guess that eventually turned into the Nummi plant that just shut down.

Re: Vin Number query

Any 73-87 power steering unit would work fine, providing you buy the mounting kit from captain fab... There are others available on almost any aftermarket site (I just like buying from fellow board members)... but I think the boxes from around the early 80's switched to metric hose fittings on the boxes, but another board member could clarify what year to be exact. And then you would have to modify your existing column and rag joint assembly to finish off the swap. There are many links here to check out to get the appropriate part numbers for a smooth conversion.

good luck on your conversion, and take some pictures to show us, I've seen a million pics of the swaps... but still like looking at them...LOL

Re: Vin Number query

Neither the VIN tag (driver side door jamb), nor the GVW tag (driver side kick panel), will identify the original engine, tranny or rear axle in your truck. The GVW tag may list a few engines & bhp ratings, but there are a few engine choices each year.

The original build sheet, sometimes still in the seat springs, will have the engine, tranny & rear axle specifications. Also, you may find the SPID (Service Parts Identification), on the back of the glove box door, that may have this information if it was specially-equiped over the standard equipment. I believe this started in 1966. Sometimes the engine configuration & displacement can be found on the title.

On the 4x4 models and some 2wd models, equipped with "no-spin" rear axles with still have the sticker behind the seat back.

...just bought a powering steering hose for my 'burb. 1979 1/2ton uses the flare style fittings and 1980 1/2 ton uses the o-ring style fittings (metric).
