Re: Just bought a 73 c10
thanks guys.. the color is kind of starting to grow on me too.. i just dont like the green stripes on the hood.. and the rest of the body, the colors need to be reversed.. but we'll see what i like when that time comes around..
i dont think it was a 454 truck the fram would have had some signs of big block motor mount being there at some point. i think its a junk yard grille that one of the p.o.'s put on.. |

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
wow. i started to decode the vin on this truck, and the vin shows it as a 74 with a 454.. it makes me kind of wonder if there was a body swap at some point.. anyone know where i can find the vin on the frame and see if it matches the body?

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
Does the VIN on the title match the VIN on the cab? The frame is etched with the VIN as well, but you'll have to yank the cab pretty much to see it. Some say you can see it with a mirror, I really don't see that happening very easy myself.

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
well guys.. did some more research, i didnt know the significance of the cheyenne super10 emblem, but that is one of the options that came from the factory on this truck and it also came from the factory with a 454, so i wil be trying to find a big block for this truck now..
Right now i am in the process of rebuilding all the front suspension. Last edited by lsp1369; 11-03-2010 at 03:47 AM. |

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
i agree that ground clearance is necessary with any truck used for work or towing, but you can use 88+ lift spindles if you use a 73-87 3/4 ton lower control arm

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
well.. i have the suspension almost done and im moving into the valve train(not what i had planned on). I had some valve chatter and decided to adjust it out. a couple tries adjusting it led me to a seized lifter that ate a pushrod on the #7 cylinder.. and this was where my valve chatter came from.. so now i have the whole top end apart(heads and all) and i found a screw that was all chewed up in the # 3 cylinder. ( Iwonder why this truck was sold for so cheap)
But anyways all is good now.. the cylinder wall and valves all look good on #3 so its now time to clean that up and put her back together.. |

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
cool truck, man...sorry to hear about the motor problems... I think the raised 2WD is a great idea...I looked at a new Chevy truck about 3 years ago that offered all the 4WD suspension, but w/o the transfer case and front diff/axles, straight up work truck...at the end of the day, it's your truck, do what YOU want...

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
well.. the truck is up and running again. I havent had a chance to hook the exhaust back up so its running open headers and the neighbors are starting to give me dirty looks.
i ended up replaceing all the lifter, push rods, and rockers. I also replaced the head gaskets for piece of mind. and all is well now and the truck is running great. All i have left is to replace the brake master cylinder, button up the exhaust and then start digging into the rear end. for some bearings and seals |

Welcome to the site! Nice ride! Warning: If you ask a question here you will get at least a half dozen answers. Be prepared. With Everything you do to your truck, there will be praise, and haters. In the end, as others have said, it's your truck. make it the way you want it...

Re: Just bought a 73 c10
@babyjay.. lol.. yea.. there are some some people out there that think there is only one way to build a truck.. (their way)...but out here in california.. there are so many different terrains and uses for a truck that ive kinda learned to build it what it was meant for.. and this one i have now is gonna be a work truck for the most part.. thanks for the advice though.
