Engine Decoding Help

OK so I pulled the engine code (front passenger head boss) and mini VIN from under it. I cant find ANYTHING about the TDS suffix. I know its a 1978 something (350 I would assume) and was made on July 7 at Flint Mi. Was wanting to know the rest of it as what size and what TDS is and isnt the C supposed to be T for truck? Maybe Im wrong.

Re: Engine Decoding Help

TDS = 1980 350, 170hp, 4barrel, manual trans, truck, per the Team Camaro website.

But - I agree that "8" in the partial VIN would indicate '78 model year; F = Flint. Additionally the "5" in 505141 could indicate GMC (GMC VINs in Flint started with 500001).

Also - every decoder I find indicates the "C" should be a number, rather than letter (unless the partial VIN on the engine was coded differently than the full VIN).

Re: Engine Decoding Help

Yep I saw that before posting also. Weird. I just decoded the carb and it was a 78 also with a manual trans. SO somewhere along the line a TH400 was installed as with an 85 body. Just wanted to see what the C was.
