Was there a stainless steel/chrome cover on the tailgate handle?

Re: 72 GMC Sierra Grande Trim Question

Interesting. Are you speculating or is your assessment based on fact that these trim items all fell off in the year 1990? Wonder if that was something GM designed or if it was by chance? Thanks for the info. Funny, I think I found mine around 20 years ago. Maybe it was 1991.

Re: 72 GMC Sierra Grande Trim Question

There is one for sale on the board right now for a reference. I have noticed a couple of gates i have have a really rusty handle, but not the rest of the gate. I have been lucky to find a couple over the years, but they are mainly gone. As andy suggests, they fell off many years ago. I have seen them on a sierra and cheyenne also. Neither was a super or grande...

Re: 72 GMC Sierra Grande Trim Question

Longhorn Man is wrong. They fell off in 1988 on the same month as they were built, but 39 of them were removed sooner by owners for various reasons.21 because they stripped all the chrome to customize,13 camo jobs for hunting,4 were sold for booze money, and the other 2 are unknown but there were UFO sightings in the vicinity at time of disappearance.
