My 1946 International K-1

I haven't posted much on here but have looked around a lot and thought I would post some pictures of my somewhat rare project. It's a 1946 (titled as a 47) International k-1 pickup with a factory flat bed that my father in law gave me. His dad bought it in Southern California from the military at some point. Not sure when though. It is going to be a slow build like any other project time and money is a factor.

It has a flat head straight six with a 3 on the tree shift. I don't think I will use this setup because to get the motor running it is going to be way expensive. It hasn't run since 1980. My plan is to put a mustang2 frontend on it. Put a sbc and 700r4 trans combo with a narrowed ford 9 inch. As for the flatbed part i am unsure about it. Don't know if I want to find a bed for it or stick with a flatbed. I have some time to think on that one. Here are some pictures.

Nice project. Those old International's had a nice look to them. There's a guy up north of me who has one. His is painted blue and body is mint. Bought for 3000 from a farm in Saskatchewan. Nobody wanted it. He did. Stock motor for now but has a small block auto and s10 rear going in. His stock motor runs good but the 5.13 gear in the rearend limits his speed. Motor parts are expensive. Zenith carbs are around 500 bucks. Cheaper to go smallblock.

Nice truck, but I love the ole corn binders.
Here's a AD truck flatbed that I found on another forum. I've never been a big fan of the halfton flatbeds until I saw this one. In his build tread he mentions how the flatbeds only look good with big wheels on them, and I agree.

Thanks, there is actually a place called classic flat glass that has all the templates for all old vehicles with flat glass. Not sure how much that is going to cost but I am glad it is available.

Make a good template from cardboard and take it to your local glass cutter. I've done it that way for years and never had a problem getting a correctly fitting piece of safety glass. And best of all, it is cheap.

well i have the motor out now. That is one heavy sucker. I bent the cherry pick a tad but will get that fixed. I learned that my father in law drained all the coolant out of the motor when he parked it which probably wasn't the best idea if i was going to use it. I am sure its rusted up bad on the inside. The week after christmas I am going to do some more stripping. I am going to measure for my MII front end and get it ordered. Then I will have to sit and wait for more funding to buy my donor vehicle for some parts. I have also decided to go with a triangulated 4 link setup in the rear to get rid of the leaf springs all together.

I have a similar build in the works. I plan to the s10 fame swap conversion for mine. Mine is a 47 IH KB-2, flatbed. It has a 125in wheelbase. Im using the s10 ext cab chassis for my foundation it is a 122in wheelbase. The s10 I have has a running fuel injected 4.3 v6 and a 5 speed, which I plan on leaving in the binder for awhile. With gas prices the way they are, I couldn't see myself putting a v8 in it. The s10 gets 22mpg, but the body is rotten. I figure with the body swap I should get pretty close to same. The Only change to the drivetrain I plan to make is to go from 24in tall tires on 14in rims with 3:08 rear gear ratio to a 28-30in tall tire and 3:73 rear gear. Anyway, thats enough rambling from me, i won't be starting mine until I return from Iraq.

Well I ordered my front suspension for the truck yesterday. I hope to start on it in february sometime between work and fishing. We will see how that all goes. then I will get some money saved up for the rear suspension.

I have a little update. I started putting in my front suspension. It was all going really smooth until I mocked in the a arms and spindles. things didn't line up too good. It turns out that they sent me the wrong crossmember and lower a arms. Up to that point it is a really basic install. Lots of measuring for sure to make it all work and place right. here are some pictures.

Well i got the right parts in and welded in. I will get it all put together tomorrow and then get my motor mounts installed. Also had to remove the rear engine cross member. What a pain that was. 5 rivets on each side and the air chisle wouldn't even move them. Had to cut them off and then chisle them. I think our ears rang for a few days after that. Hope to get it drug home so I can work on it at my house tomorrow as well.

Well I want it low but not too low. I put 2 inch drop spindles on but if I don't like the ride then I will go back to a standard spindle.

Update after the weekend. I got everything welded in. Now i need to start saving for rearend suspension. I also need to get a steering colum fitted.

Any updates on this project? My 47 KB-2 is with in weeks of being on the road again for the first time since 1957..... I will put together a build thread.....I just need more than 5 minutes to sit in front of this computer to put it up...lol

I haven't gotten much done. I am waiting on my transmission so I can weld in the floor pan I am building. I don't know if there is a hump or not yet. Then the next objective will be to buy a steering column and get it mounted. I will be looking for your build!

What kind of steering column are you gonna use? I bought one from Speedway for my 53. They come in several different lengths. There's a pic in my build thread (link in my sig below)

i am thinking of buying one from I did it columns. Theres seem like a pretty cool setup Hopefully here in a few weeks I can get it on order.
