Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to make them quiet I do 40 miles of highway driving everyday, during which I can barely hear my self think. I have a fuse in between the driver latch and it stays rather quiet but I have 2 nickels and a penny In the passenger side and It makes no difference at all. Please help me it's driving me crazy. I don't want to get rid of them because its quite handy for smoking and a breeze but something must be done.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive thought of using the thin rubber seal that they use in between the body and most fender flares since its only sticky to one side and is very thin. havent gotten around to it yet, but its a thought

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was looking here and found some info and specs with measurements for them. Never could find anything at autozone or oreillys.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I may be confused about the problem here, but isn't there a little washer type gasket that goes between the latch and the glass. Mine just recently fell out and this made the wind noise very bad because it is making the latch loose and keeping the window from latching tight enough. Anyway that's my problem and may be yours. I was sure hoping someone sold just the gasket for replacement.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read posts here that say replacing the seals on these is a bear. I've not tried to replace the seals on older ones, I just bought a new assembly for mine a year or so ago. If I had it to do over again I would buy new latch assemblies also.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know if you use them it won't work but I would silicone them shut. As for the handles they have a washer to seal and a spring like clip to hold tension on them tooo, both could be bad or something.

Maybe if you got other doors laying around(I know ya do lol) try changing out the vent windows? I think they aint too bad, I done some along time ago, I think it's 3 or 4 phillips screws in the door jamb area, a bolt or two under the door panel and then slide it back and up out of the door. I know dad's 84 leaks at top because when you wash the truck or go thru the car wash water comes in but wind noise is nothing, it doesn't seeem to have any. it used to on the PS but that was because the door was kicked out bad on bottom after I stripped the truck down and painted it I adjusted the door in and that helped fix that problem.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know if ther is a proper fix besides new seals and even then back in the day when they were new they came off the assembly line with wind noise. Its a tought fix. I cleaned mine really good and then lubed up the rubbers with Silicone emulsion from GM and even then i still get a little noise...

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always silicone them shut with black silicone. I just do it on the inside and take my time and lay it down really nice and neat. No more wind noise. As said earlier it obviously isn't an option if you use them.

I had a bunch of doors amongst other things but I let that black guy that walks around cherry tree take and scrap them also gave him a whole stepside bed, don't know how he got it out of there be he some how managed to do so. I might check one of my parts trucks to see if they have them in them I need to rob them of a window regulator any way.

Re: Vent glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol ya I know the guy he came up and got a big 220 window a/c and hauled it off for scrap. Sometimes he rides an atv around, that's how he got my stuff. I woulda took the doors and bed off your hands for free lol, just to have them around for a project.
