Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

I like the q-jets, good mileage, great secondaries, perfect 4 wheelin carb. BUT my experience with the nytrol float and todays crap gas/alcohol left me crazy. After a full rebuild with a new float it would last 5 to 6 weeks before the float would get heavy and the float level would be too high. I went though this pain twice before I tried a edlebrock and never looked back. I wish I could by real gas again.

Yes Yes everyone agrees Holley is the way to go for Performance.

But let's just throw a monkey wrench in this whole debacle and see how many have used the Predator Carburator?

Fine it's off topic, once again but just curious who has used them with any success?

Thank you and everyone have a Happy and safe Fourth of July!

Get a guy that knows how to build a Quadrajet the right way, you'll never look back! Best road manners for DD plus plenty of punch when you want it! I had Eddie Obie of National Carbs build mine and couldn't be happier!!! Disclosure: I've only owned Holley's and Q-jets. I used to rebuild Q-jets for the Q-jet haters crowd and they couldn't believe how well they worked. On my personal truck I had so many mods to the engine I needed a specialist so I hooked up with Eddie along with complete build sheet of engine, drivetrain and truck weight. Man did he nail it!

QuadraBog!!
They are tricky and mods are hard. But if you know what you are doing they are the best. How many of yall know that there are two CFM's? 750 and 900! The 900 was only B.O.P.Caddy. big blocks during the '70s

As far as "rating" there way two but they were 750 and 800 cfm. You can tell by the annular ring inside the primaries.

Yes , I'm sorry, you are correct! 750 and 800. The 800's are very hard to tell without comparing the two side by side. The only difference is the primaries.

I always thought there were 3 cfm's.

The old Carter AFB is my overall choice.

For a basic "Performance" 350 cid SBC 600-650cfm Holley should work right?

Sounds like everyone has there favorite. I need to rebuild my q-jet on my BBC. Is the q-jet beginner friendly? the info they sent with the kit shows a pretty detailed description of breakdown.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

That's a loaded question. Q-Jets have a lot of parts. For a basic rebuild pay very close attention to things like how the primary metering rods attach to the power valve. One of the biggest problems is leakage in the secondary metering wells. Use JB Weld to on the bottom side of the wells to seal them. Don't mess with the adjustment screw for the secondary air flaps.

HP Books has a really good book on Q-Jets that detail every adjustment and how to make them scream. Even for the basic rebuild it is very helpful.

I would recommend also going to You Tube and typing in QuadraJet Rebuild or something close to that.

mmiddle summed it up very nicely. But on Q-Jets you have to pay attention to details. Once you get one or two under your belt the rebuilds go smoothly.

Good luck.

if you are gonna rebuild any carb. I suggest getting a bushing kit for the throtle body. I have never seen a throtle body Holley or Rochester that is not loose!

You run into that with the cast bases. The billet bases on most 4150 series carbs stay dead tight for years. Much denser material. Running your return spring correctly to the FRONT will help save your throttle bores but we weren't taught that huh?
