Power Steering Pump Needs A Bath - Any Suggestions?

I took the Power Steering pump off to replace the rubber lines and this thing is in need of a bath real bad. I'm sure a degreaser of some kind is going to be the answer. Other than plugging the holes, should there be any other things I need to watch out for? What have you done? Any Suggestions?

Thumbs up Re: Power Steering Pump Needs A Bath - Any Suggestions?

Don't get any water in it. if you do make sure you dry it very good before using it. Mositure is the worst thing on a power steering pump.
Make sure it's pumping. I would take it and have it cleaned and tested at a hydrolic shop.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I think it's CPP has new PS pumps on sale for a X-Mas special $39 plus shipping. At that price you could do that, borrow a pulley puller from one of the chain stores and swap out your clean brackets.

That is for just the reservoir at CPP. You still have to use your pump.

You can get a complete reseal kit for your pump from the parts store for about 10 dollars. It's a very easy project to reseal one. This is one I did for Scoti and powdercoated all the parts during the job...

Remove the old front seal with a drywall screw...

Install new seal...

All reassembled with new seals on reservoir and fittings...

Kevin, what did you charge Scoti for powdercoating and resealing. I would definetly consider this after the holidays. You gave me a quote earlier in the year for powder coating a master cylinder ($45). I would send them both. Im thinking they would both fit in a large usps flat rate box.

I don't remember what I charged Scoti. We were working deals back and forth doing trading and such. It was washed in with a bigger deal I think.

I've been so busy building hay trailers that I haven't been doing any powdercoating lately. I'm gonna be covered up until the winter is over and folks quit buying hay before I can do anymore.
