Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

After all the talk for the last couple of years about doing Hot Rod Power Tour I finally did it this year. We went to the Goodguys show in Indy Fri, Sat and Sunday, took a tour of the Auburn/Cord /Dusenburg Museum on Monday and picked up Power Tour on Tuesday in Norwalk, Ohio. Wednesday on to Crown Point, Indiana, Thursday Bettendorf, Iowa and Friday, Wisconsin Dells. The truck ran great, I installed a new speedometer when the crate engine was installed, changed out the break in oil with 175 miles on the odometer and headed out. We returned with 1700+ miles on the odometer, these things are WAY more fun to drive than to use as garage art, as I had for several years! I took a lot of pictures, not many of the truck but here are a couple.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Had the pleasure to meet Bob (OldNSlow) at the Columbus GG show this past weekend. Great looking and sounding truck.

Looking forward to hanging out at the NSRA show this fall.

Thanks
Marc

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I had a small problem on the way to Goodguys Columbus, the hood came up at about 70 mph on I-70. Still can't believe this was all of the damage, new glass on the way. Met some GREAT people at Columbus, including Marc from this forum. This show had the most high quality cars and trucks that I have ever seen in one place. The host hotel is a combination car show / barbecue / party complete with band. I will definitely be back next year (hopefully in paint)

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Swapped the wheels and tires for some rollers, getting ready to take it to the painter next week. I liked the low maintenance of the DP40 primer, but getting asked if the truck is a "Rat Rod" sure gets old! I put about 4k on it this year, so I guess what is going to chafe, crack or move has already happened so with repairs made, the paint job should hold up well. I'm stoked to finally see it in color, it has been a long time coming.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

It's going to be the current Chevy truck color, Victory Red, solid no metallic, should be fairly easy to touch up the rock chips.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

wow you scathed a bullet on that hood. congrats on the future paint. goooood god I can hardly stand the majority of people's perspective on rods and customs. when that term first came about, yeah a primer job got that label. times change, terminology changes. you'd think one look at your interior and people would understand. I might try and head over to goodguys this year, I'm in PA so not too far.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Bob-

If the outside of your truck turns out as nice as the interior you will have an outstanding truck on your hands.

Can't wait to see the truck in color.

Good luck
Marc

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Looks good...Does this mean you wont make Columbus? I'm planning on going. Not sure if I'm taking/driving the 48 yet. I will be staying in the same host hotel.

Let me know
Marc

Paint prison sucks, the truck is coming out nice, although its hard to tell with the body shop dust film. Unfortunately, the bed is still in primer, hopefully I'll get to drive it this summer

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I went by my buddy / painter Jason's body shop on Saturday and delivered the "real" wheels and tires and hooked up the air ride plumbing and wiring. The cab was finished a while ago so with all of the body shop dust, it was hard to get an idea how the truck really looked. He cleaned it up and took these pictures Sunday, I cant wait to get it back!
