69 stepside, project keep the wife happy
Well i thought i should start a build thread on my 69,i didnt do one one on my blazer and my computer crashed with no pic back up....lost all my stuff.this time im prepared to share the good, bad and ugly of another build!
I picked this truck up for $1200.from a friend whos son got burned out on it,he sold the bed the cowl hood and any pieces he could to recover some of his investment.i bought a stepside bed for $200.00....i built a 68 shortwide a couple of years ago, finished my blazer last summer so i'm excited to build this since step sides seem to be few and far between around here anymore. I promised my wife i wouldnt get carried away on this and spend what i did on the blazer...my plan was satin black, steel wheels and a little cleaning, you know keep it cheap and make a rat rod shop truck out of it.....i changed my mind, still trying to get this done for under 4k though,i think she will be happy! This had a good 350,th 350 and air ride all around,6 lug disc brakes and dropped spindles.....i cant lose on this deal. |

Re: 69 stepside, project keep the wife happy
since i think i have adult onset a.d.d. im going to tackle this in stages so i dont get side tracked and get to discouraged. front half of frame and motor back in then on to the rear frame section.i painted the frame with a brush and por 15,wasnt to happy with my work so i sanded it down shot it with some single stage black urethane...much better! here's before and after on the frame.

Camaro is done and home with it's owner. it looks like you are moving right along on it. I need to get my truck done around then as well, were working on buying a house with room for a shop so i told the wife i was not moving until my truck is done.

Re: 69 stepside, project keep the wife happy
well this thing has been on the back burner for a looooong time and i wait to get it done...these things take up a lot of space with the frame and all the parts plus the cab off. cab needed about evey patch panel you can buy,cab corners, inner and outer rockers,a pillars,1 drip rail and all 4 cab supports.cab is finished up and i'm getting back to the frame ordered c-notches,bag brackets and new perches for the rear end.waiting on those to arrive and i can finish the frame and get this cab mounted and get my sheetmetal hung.anyway got a few pics and i will update as i get stuff done.

Re: 69 stepside, project keep the wife happy
ok....2 steps forward and 1 step back.got the rear susp. all done, bag mounts, shock mounts, notches and crossmember in.the down side of having this sitting so long partially done is it was covered with overspray and dust on the front where i had already painted so i pulled the motor and painted the whole frame and suspension pieces again,it looks better now!hoping to have it sitting on the ground by christmas, but with kids and the wife and the holiday schedule it might be the week after.
