?'s about these trucks

I am new to the world of 67-72 chevy trucks. I have known that i always wanted one but i am just now getting the chance. I have a found a '72 k10 4x4. The truck seems to be in great condition.

I would like to get some input on trucks like these. What are their good and bad points. Is there anything i should look for when buying one or looking one over. It will not be a project truck as of yet. It will be a daily driver for at least 5 or 6 yrs. Until i can afford to park it and redo it.

so pretty much, Is there anything i should be aware of with these trucks?

other than rust? not much. they are pretty simple and straight forward. the usual areas of rust are going to be the cab corners, kickpanels, floor boards, rocker panels, cab supports. also, watch the inside of the cab next to the visors, they are prone to rust there too. with these things being 30+ years old, the engines and trannys could have been swapped, but if it runs right, that shouldn't be a problem. i'm not sure of too much else

i second nightmare's suggestion. rust is the big problem with our trucks --- everything else is usually great! in addition to what he suggested, also look for rust under the battery, and MOST IMPORTANTLY - along the drip rails --- these are the rails that run along the top of the windshield and wrap around and down the back of each side window. these drip rails are always prone to rust --- and once they are rusted, its really difficult to replace them. things like the rocker panels, cab corners, etc. can all be replaced with good body work. but those drip rails are one of a kind. it will get messy if they are rusty.

good luck! i hope you find a fine truck!

thanks for all the input. If i find a truck that needs the rocker panels replaced on both sides, how much would that run me? including everything, body work, paint?

also , any other input is awesome. I am going to look at a truck this weekend so i need to know what to look for.

I was in pretty much the same boat you're in a couple of months ago before I bought my '72 Cheyenne. I posted this and got some pretty good responses.
Check it out.

Yeah - these things kinda grow on you - makes it hard to get rid of them. Kinda becomes family. Had mine 26 years so far. So be prepared to own it 'til you die of old age!
