Rear axle vent

Finished up the rear springs, shocks, etc. During the job noticed the rear is not vented. (Dana 44) I'm not an expert...far from it...but shouldn't it be vented? Looking at the pic you can see a bolt on top of the right axle tube where the vent should be?

I thought I'd be a helpful guy and take some pics of my Dana '60' in my Nova..and the vent attachment...can only find a bolt in the left axle tube...no vent..I guess this must be the spot...pics are not the best but it is the only spot I can find...hopefully someone else will chime in...

Hey I appreciate you trying. I've actually got a bolt like that in the top of the left and right axle tube. There's a vent hose tucked up into the passenger side frame but don't know if it was ever hooked up. May be left from the original rear axle.

On mu 67 there is a threaded tube screwed into the axle and it is machined on the other end and a metal cap can snap on and off fairly easy but its not tight at all so it can breath. It doesn't have a hose at all.

I will contact Strange and find out what is correct..I am sure the bolt comes out and a barbed nipple/hose deal with a breather up under the chassis will do the job..

speedway motors has a nice small billet breather for rear axels i've used on a number of 9"rears // just had to tap the hole and it screwed in

Guys on the D44 axle the breather should be in the differential housing not axle tube, on the front pass side on top of diff.

Have you removed the " bolt "? It might be a 1/8" pipe plug just waiting for you to install a pipe nipple and a hose to vent your rear end. Hope that did not come out as me being a smart ***. I am not sure of this, but on some factory rear ends this is the case. HEY! what ya got to lose sailor!

After a little closer inspection...and looking at the item CDDOWNS mentioned, I find my '60' has this for the vent..learn something everyday..

Nope...not smart a** at all. That's exactly what I'm gonna do...thread a nipple or barb fitting to hook the vent hose up to. Cheers to your Dad...toughest job on the boat!
