Re: suburban regency conversion
Regency was one of the larger conversion companies at one time. They did do Suburbans along with the normal full size vans. Some of the suburban conversions had a fiberglass hightop roof installed. They usually had overstuffed captains chairs, a lot of wood and accent lights.

Re: suburban regency conversion
They did vans, suburbans, mini vans and trucks. Regency was just one of dozens of conversion companies from the 80's and 90's, they started phasing out in the 00's. Was hard to compete with some of the factory units coming out with all the toys they started offering inside and out.

Re: suburban regency conversion
I always like keeping the emblems off of them when we'd do repairs on those conversions, insurance would pay for new ones. The "Good Times" emblems were my favorites, they just looked pretty damn cool, a nice hipster font that belonged on a 70's VW bus or something.

Re: suburban regency conversion
Regency was in business until 2009. They were based out of Fort Worth, so they were pretty popular around here. They were turning out some pretty cool pickups for a few years before they closed. You don't see conversion vans much anymore, I wonder how many of those companies are still in business.

Re: suburban regency conversion
I had a '88 2wd 1/2 ton regency burb 10-15 years ago.
I loved it. I might have a few exterior pics around here somewhere, dunno if I have any interior shots. It had the wood center console, wood overhead console with small lights behind some sort of plexi-glass, and wood in the rear above quarter windows with indirect lighting. It was pretty cool. Re: suburban regency conversion
Heres a few shots of my 1991 regency:
http://s895.photobucket.com/albums/a...y-yo/Suburban/ And yes the overstuffed chairs are SWEET! Mine also has extra padding on the 2nd row but not the third. (wtf?) And it seems lower with a softer ride than my old 2wd 'burb but I havent measured it.

Re: suburban regency conversion
Fair warning that top console is a $&%$ to install and thats if you already have the mounts in and lined up. If you have a helper, or two, it makes it a LOT easier.

Re: suburban regency conversion
Seems like they are 9/16 or 3/4 but they are thru bolted with fender washers and a nut on the underside and will require an assistant (or vise-grips and bailing wire). The rails are different than standard suburban rails, and I think they will require drilling thru the floor pan in your truck.

Re: suburban regency conversion
my 88 conversion was done by Vacation customs Texas
the cpt chairs had custom made brackets bolted to the floor(factory 1 front bench only, rpo code YG4)(no belts either) the 2nd row rears are bolted threw the factory holes but they didn't all line up(big bolts and big washers all around) and it's all real wood

Re: suburban regency conversion
i snapped some pics last night. I'll try to get them up at lunch today or when I get home. lots of wood grain inside, lol i like it but cant get the idea out of my head to put in a bench seat up front and take out the big center console... even then there is wood all over
edit: here are two bad quality photos off of cell phones. i do not have the mini usb to usb cable to transfer the pics from the memory card (will get it in the morn) . as you can see i took off those ugly ass steps Last edited by Dave C; 01-24-2011 at 07:08 PM. |

Re: suburban regency conversion
Regency had some good looking stuff in my opinion. Not as cheesy looking as a lot of the companies turning out the customs in the 80s-90's. I work right across Hwy 35 from where they were, didnt hurt my feelings much when they closed though. New shop named Tuscany has gone in using some of the buildings they had, not sure if its any of the Regency crew though.
