53 chevy dually
so i have 2 65s. a lwb and a swb. i had a kid stop by and ask me if id be interested in a 53 chevy. it turns out its a 1 or 2 ton dually truck. its got the original running gear. he found it in a field about 50 miles from here. a lil gas and a battery and it fired right up and he drove it 50 miles back here and his parents told him to get rid of it. hes asking $500. is this something i should jump on? i know the cabs on the early trucks as the halftons. but wouldnt i need a new set of fenders and hood to put it on a 1/2ton frame? i absolutely love this style of truck but i dont want to get in over my head.

Re: 53 chevy dually
If it's a 1 ton the fenders and hood are the same, if it's bigger then no the fenders are different.
Depending on condition 500 is worth it.

Re: 53 chevy dually
The 1-1/2 ton trucks have the big openings in the fenderwells as Sweet70beast mentioned.
This is the 1-1/2 ton I have and it has 10.00 20 tires on it. I'm not sure what my plans are but it may end up as a car hauler with later 1 ton running gear. The frames on the 1-1/2 tons are massive and heavy. One more thing is that the 1 tons usually have the regular pickup bumpers on them rather then the big truck bumper like this one has. |

Re: 53 chevy dually
ill have to get over there and check it out one day after work or have the kid send me some pics. he said the cab corners are a bit rusty and the passenger door has rust. with any luck it will be a 3/4 or 1 ton. id love to have one of these trucks. my uncle owned one right out of the navy and had it parked at his place. i spent many hours playing in it as a little kid
