project "Cheap Bastard" 68 short wide..
Went to Arkansas and picked up this fine ride Sunday. For this part of the country it is better than most we have looked at. The boys that run around with us are always telling the wife that her "cheap bastard" husband should come off some money and spend it on his current project. We are going to try... The truck is a 70 short wide, small block of some kind and TH350 trans. Have not touched it yet, just went and bought it, hauled it home and took pics. Hope to have it all one color, lowered and the engine compartment cleaned up and made to look like a respectable engine. Wish us luck.. TRUCK IS NOW A 68 SWB, PLANS CHANGE.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
The floor seems to have hauled something pretty heavy? But looks like a excellent truck to start with, and good luck with the build.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Thanks Kerry. Yes, it has been used as a truck in its life, probably sand or dirt if we were guessing. Was going to pressure wash underhood and start removing that wonderful hose covering but battery was dead and we didn't feel like pushing it in and out of the shop. First expense, new battery.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Hey guys, thanks for the support. It is going to go slow, playing Grandpa as much as possible, and work keeps us busy. Don't forget the Cheap part also... First thing is getting the engine bay cleared up, don't really care for the looks from the late 80's. Next is switching wheels,,, god those are ugly..

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
O.K. Got to work on the truck some the last couple of nights. Did not need a new battery after all, just had to redo some custom wiring from previous owner(s) and replace alternator. Got the underhood looking a little more of our style, not quite there but only have about $14.00 in this improvement. Had the alternator from a long bed we parted out. I love keeping old spare parts around, you never know

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Yup, I agree - those wheels gotta go! They just make the truck look like a dorkmobile. I wonder what some people think when they pick crap out... You know the previous owner thought he was stylin' big time when he rolled out of Wal-Mart Tire with those on his whip!
FYI: I'd wear a bag or full face helmet while driving till you get the wheels & tires changed out

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Have been to 2 swap meets in the last 2 weekends.. except for spending time with wife on one and good friend on the other, a total waste of time. I am doing better buying parts from other members here. Trying to sell off some odds and ends so we can buy more, different stuff. We have another swap meet coming up the 20th in Cape Girardeau. Wish us luck.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Details on the Cape Swap Meet Pleeze. (Time/ Date/ Location) Thought the big one in Cape was in early March. Which is usually worth the trip if the weather stays on the milder side of uncomfortable.
There was a local guy in your area doing soda blasting that was very reasonable priced in case your needing any of that type of services.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Hey guys. Was finally able to get SOMETHING done for the truck. The "unmanly" wheels are history. Hoping to get a little more done this weekend. Running the smoker and working on the truck gets confusing.

Re: project "Cheap Bastard" 70 short wide..
Not sure about the caps. don't really care for the rings. I am kind of simple and like things the same way. if you are looking for flash and shine, this will not be the build to watch. It will bore you to tears. I had a great guy teaching me along the way as i was a young man learning my line of work,, he always told everyone "Freddie is crude, but damn effective". Kind of the way I approach most things. Thanks again for the input and support y'all. Man, I AM GLAD THOSE WHEELS ARE OFF THERE......
