O-Ring Install & Evap, Drier Opinions - THANKS!

Hey guys,

I just mocked up the evap and drier tubes and am getting ready to do the
o-rings. Seems easy enough, a bit of supplied oi and the correct o-ring...tighten correctly...

Just thought I would put it out there in case anyone sees a possible problem...this is my first time doing AC...hate finding mistakes after the fact.

I don't have a manual to refer to for this and see the drier has the words evap and condensor...do the lines look correct...any tips?

Thanks,
Roger

Your evap- cond. lines look backwards to me. You have the cond line into evap port on the dryer. They usually have a directional arrow on them.

Looks like you are missing your A/C Inlet & Evaporator Tube Grommets that protect the aluminum tubes from the core support. We make them.. WES

Would there be any advantage to using a bit of teflon tape in addition to the o-rings...I want to make sure no leaking...?

The o rings do the sealing tape is not to be used. Also keep in mind that the dryer has a desiccant inside to absorb moisture so the system should be kept sealed. The drier is normally the last thing installed so moisture is not added to the system. If your still fabing up the system keep the lines capped and sealed as you wrk on it. Good Luck

Thanks, I may need to look at getting another drier. Is there anyway to know if it is still ok? When I purchased the truck it came without a compressor...it probably went out and was tossed but everything else looked fine so I have been spending time cleaning, polishing... Thanks for the advice, Roger

That one is only good for mocking up a new one. If you leave them open to the atmosphere they do their job and use themselves up.
I never bought anything from ackits.com but I've read good things about them. I had to look the part up for a 1972 Chevelle but they have them for $17.16. You SHOULD be able to find one at the local auto parts store.

When you get your new one leave it sealed until you are ready to evacuate the system and charge it up. Just keep mocking up with what you got.

When I was doing 134 conversion several years ago I always had problems with orings leaking even when oiled with compressor oil got some of nylog and now I wouldn't put one together without it. One bottle goes a long way.

Thanks for the info, I will just use the old one for setting it up and get another to hook up when ready to do the final steps. Thanks for the link as well. Roger

Thanks for the tip, I hate getting it all hooked up and still finding problems/ a leak. I will definitely look into ordering some Nylog.

I don't know much about Air Cond so this will prepare me for other future projects as well, Roger
