M-20 t-10

I just got the 67 up and running for the first time. And to my Surprise the tranny is all messed up but it is the stock m-20 so no big deal i guess. I have a t-10 i think out of a Chevy? maybe a Ford? i was wondering if i could use the old bellhousingand clutch off of the m-20 on the t-10? the problem with the m20 is that i have 1 and 2 I believe but when i go right and up the transmision goes into gear and locks up same with 4th. when i go left althe way and either up or down it wont go into a gear but it tries to move forward.
but as i said i have a t-10 to go into it

Re: M-20 t-10

So by m20 do you mean a muncie 4 speed or do you have a granny first gear tranny.
Could be just a linkage problem. No need to swap out the tranny or tear it apart yet.

Re: M-20 t-10

i dunno if it is a muncie but the build sheet off of the fuel tank and the gear box its self has m20 serial numbers and it slides into 1st gear without needing the clutch so i believe it is syncroded

Re: M-20 t-10

Take a pic of your shifter from inside the cab and a pic of your shifter and tranny from underneath. We'll figure out what it is!!

Re: M-20 t-10

I'm all confused. I'm sure you don't have a Muncie M20,which is a car transmission. Those are side loaders with linkage that can be messed up,if that is what you have swapped-in. If it's the original truck trans, then 1st gear is non-synchro and there is no linkage. What I mean by 1st is what we call Granny or Creeper gear. We always start in 2nd,but Granny is 1st,it's a 4spd. GM made it confusing when they went to calling the pattern L-1-2-3...where's the 4? It's a 4spd,right? So,are you saying it goes into 2nd without using the clutch, right? You need to find out what the other trans came out of or at least check the input/output shafts for length, spline count, and any other thing that may differ. Check the mounting bolt pattern, too. It's a Borg Warner T10? That's another car 4spd. You can use these, but not a simple bolt-in unless you had a 3spd.

Re: M-20 t-10

the build tag says m-20 on it and this is the stock tranny it is a top loader but with the sceond half of the drive shaft removed and the truck idling and the clutch out the truck will straight slide into 1st gear (where granny is) with no grinding. this isnt my first truck style transmission that is why i am confused.the t-10 is out of an f250 70's modle 4x4 with a divorced transfercase.

Re: M-20 t-10

well heres the story. The tranny is a t-14. the prblem was that the rear big shifter fork was in front of slider and the reverse fork wasnt any where near the shifter. iI feel like an idiot but i guess we all make mistakes.
thank you for all your help
