Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
I hit the jackpot.... I found a 2002 Corvette engine with the all aluminum block/engine combo. The block and heads are like 130lbs Getting fuel injection, harness, computer etc... waiting to see if it has an automatic or 6speed tranny... a six speed-LS1 will be CRAZY I'M VERY...VERY...VERY...VERY... excited about this one
anyone rolling a 6speed in their C10???? I need input please

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
I hate to burst your bubble, but a Corvette uses a transaxle. That will be tough to adapt, but a 4L60E or T56 are easy enough to find. Should be a cool project!

Nice find, but how much? Finding them isn't hard, but finding them cheap can be.

Man I would have to resell that thing and buy a regular old 6.0, that is a cool engine though.

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
The price is awesome. If it falls through check into the all aluminum LS2. It's about the same weight as the LS1 but has more cubes and better compression ratio with mo power.

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
My buddy has about 5500 into his ls1 in his firebird. HEads cam crank pistons intake exhaust. With the t56 and 12 bolt he made 505 hp and 503 ft lbs. he changed over to a th400 w/ a brake so the car will be more consistant and he wont have to keep replacing clutches. I dont know what your plans are for the ls1, but you can make a lot of power with them. Just doing an intake exhaust, heads, cam, and tune. you should make between 4-450 hp with that. Maybe refer to LS1 tech's website or performance trucks website. Just sayin.

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
I plan on swapping camshafts, new rings, new gaskets etc.. get it programed and ride. not looking to break any records. 400-450hp is fine...
I am adding single chamber race mufflers and headers...

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
He's sending me pics today. From what I was told its a Z06. I will post pics when I get some. It has low mileage, the car was totalled in a roll over.

I need to check out some Z06's with free flowing exhaust... if it sounds nice I wont even touch the cam.

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
Forgot to post that the engine ended up being a LS6 with the 6speed. I swapped the 6speed for a 4L65 from a wrecked GTO This gonna be one cool truck when its done.
But... its on hold for a minute until my daily driver is back operational...

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
that package didnt work out... but I found a 6.0 LS1 already done up with Carb and MSD setup. This one is definately the real deal... I have video of the car running, pics of the engine in the car and I know the seller personally. Went into depression behind that last engine. Truck had been in the same spot almost 2yrs.

But LATERRRR I'd like to put something else in there, and perhaps a 6.0 pushing one of these heavy older trucks down the road would MAYBEEEE help fuel mileage? Even though it's a completely rebuilt 305, it still doesn't feel like it has as much power as I'd like, mostly for getting onto the highway or taking off quick to get out of a parking lot etc.

Re: Found a 2002 Corvette LS1 for the Shortbox
I put an ls1 5.7 in my truck and love it! The weight reduction with the aluminum block is my prefered over the iron 6.0. The added cubes might get you 10-15 hp apples to apples but the 50+ lbs weight savings makes up for and then some with how the truck drives and handles. I also moved my motor back 1 inch so that the trans bolted up in the factory location thus shifting more weight to the rear. I weighed my truck with corner scales and this is what i ended up with. All aluminum ls1, 1/2 tank gas, no driver. This is my normal daily weight..
