68 Slant Back Wrecker Update

Checked it out yesterday....
The bad: Didn't make it around the block on test drive...had crap in the fuel line. Owner and I thrashed on it for an hour before we towed it back to his house. Rust above pass door, rockers and floor...all repairable. Interior is trashed, doors have speaker cutouts and regulators etc are junk. Wiring is suspect. Bolt in high hump has org 4 speed cutout patched w/ sheetmetal (rivited) now has th350. Frame has been chewed on for clearence around the engine on driver's side (repairable), very front frame crossmember also cut on but sound.

The good: It's a 67 C-20 CST small back window, emergency handbrake etc. VIN and frame #'s match. SPID was hard to read but first 2 digits are CS...
350 looks fresh and ran good when we bypassed the fuel filter, also looks to be mounted on big block stands? Was BB an option on 67 C-20? Bed is in great shape..heavy steel..only surface rust underneath. Duel rear wheels, rearend and massive leafsprings all look good. New 10 ton winch, Alum ramps, chains, binders, spare tires, etc all included.

The owner is a real cool guy and was embarrassed about the whole "not running" thing. Has agreed to make everything road worthy and deliver it to me tomorrow with his truck on the back just to prove it's a good truck! Told ya he was cool.
I didn't whip out my camera an take glammor shots because I didn't want him to think I was in love with it (I am).
Oh ya..almost forgot...price came way down

What do you guys think...

Re: 68 Slant Back Wrecker Update

It's a cool rig! No,there weren't big block '67s,but that VIN says it was originally a 6cyl. So,maybe when the V8 was swapped in they used big block stands. Or,maybe it was originally swapped to a big block and more recently swapped to a small block.

Re: 68 Slant Back Wrecker Update

Any info on if a big block was an option on a 67 C-20? The high hump is the same as my 70 BB GMC and the engine stands are strange. I should have more info from the SPID tomorrow (it was very dirty).
Thanks Tim, I'm a slow typer.

She's a beauty! Saw a 72' in St. Mary's completely tricked with diamond plate ramp but that 67' is way cool. Congrats and keep us posted on your progress!
