Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
Well Im about ready to put together the new motor and as the saying goes.. "might as well" rebuild the front suspension before she goes in.
SO... 2 upper and lower Ball joints, Inner/outer tie rod ends, adjusting sleeves, pitman arm, Idler arm, upper/lower control arm shaft kit. $628.75 to ship from Oreilly- Highest $575 from EarlyClassics, before shipping- Really highest? $422.39 From Rockauto shipped. Lowest Does anyone know if the Rockauto MOOG parts are inferior in someway? Or are they just that cheap? I realize that the premium MOOG is the problem solver line.. but the other 2 sites dont list what line theirs is either. Any other parts I might have missed? (besides bumpers and bushings).. Im going with the ECE 2/4 kit later.. just trying to get the exspensive time consuming junk out of the way first. Im not opposed to going with another brand either if it will save a little.. It just seems everyone else was going with MOOG, so I figured it was for a reason. thanks in advance.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
Not sure of the line of Moog....but know they are great parts....is that price including a discount? There always seems to be a 10% off coupon you can google for rockauto online...

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I have never had a problem with McQuay Norris parts. Buy American made parts...whether it be Moog or the house brand (sometimes Moog in a plain box)

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
Problem solver is not a grade of Moog, its a line of parts that solve issuses that a standard replacement parts can't such as over sized ball joints or upper control arm shafts with a built in offset. Don't buy a problem solver part if you are not trying to correct an issue a standard part can't.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
You should call ECE. They priced a kit for me. I paid a few dollars more than Amazon to go with ECE but when I had 2 bad parts out of the box, their support was more than worth the extra $$$. I was doing springs and shocks as well. ECE now carries Raybestos as well.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
We rebuilt the suspension on the wife's car this summer and found the best prices for moog parts from rock auto also. We then wrote down every part number and price and ordered it all through summit, since we needed other parts from there. They matched all prices. Hope this helps.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I'm a true believer in both Rockauto and Moog.
Very good prices, great customer service and very fast. I will buy from them regardless of whether someone else will price match or not. In my book, when I find a company that does me right, I extend them my loyalty. |

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I was going to buy all MOOG parts for my front end. I talked to Stan at ECE and he asked me if I wanted MOOG or Raybestos. He said that MOOG is starting to manufacture some of their parts oversees and he is now recommending Raybestos more than MOOG. He didn't say there was a problem with overseas made MOOG part per say but ECE is a very "American Made" oriented company.
I went with Raybestos because I trust what the guys at ECE say. The price was the same for either brand. Dan

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I ordered all my front end parts from Rockauto last summer. I verified they shipped me all the correct parts.....at least according to the boxes the parts were in.
I got my front end completely tore down and started to install the ball joints, then realized I had a weird ball joint in the wrong box and another ball joint was missing the small parts bag that comes with it. After that i found that the outer tie rods were packaged in the wrong boxes as well. I ended up going to autozone since i needed the parts immediately. I bought their duralast brand and it turns out they are moog. the part number is a moog number abd the grease boot says MOOG on it. Thats my Rockauto story. Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
It was $525 before shipping. It is hard to say exactly what the shipping was because I ordered a bunch of other stuff. I believe I got a little bit of shipping discount though.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I got mine from ECE and everything was MOOG, in their packaging. I took a whole day and tore mine apart, had no issues at all going back together.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
$525 seems a little steep from ECE for raybestos.. I understand markup and all... But I just priced everything from rock auto at under $300 shipped.. but if Raybestos is what ECE is selling then it must be passable for atleast a daily driver. But now the question is was $525 for the professional grade line Raybestos carries or the service line.. which rockauto sells.

EDIT: just realized they sent me the manual steering tie rod adj sleeves which are significantly cheaper than the power steering ones. I'm not sure what the difference is, maybe the power steering ones are beefier??? Anyway, I'm gonna call them tomorrow and ask. This is all for a '70 w/ power steering and the following parts: upper/lower ball joints upper/lower a-arm shafts inner/outer tie rod ends tie rod adj sleeve pitman arm idler arm Dan

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
So I just went back to Rockauto because I was gonna play with the numbers some more... all/most of the Raybesto Service grade line has DISAPPEARED!!! I really wanted to have my set ordered this weekend.. kind of puts a damper on things.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I did some more research on suspension parts and it seems that the consensus was that the service grade parts are low quality and they may last a year or two but not much more. The professional grade parts are good quality similar to MOOG. Maybe Rockauto realized the quality was not good because of returns, failures, etc.
Also as a side note, Raybestos suspension parts (professional not service grade) are actually Spicer made parts which are also packaged as the high end Napa susp parts. These brands are all now owned by Affinia Group which now owns McQuay-Norris, WIX, Dana/Spicer and some other well know brands. I think the bottom line here is you get what you pay for. Quality parts are not cheap.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
Just be carefull when ordering multiple parts from Rockauto. They have great prices but sometimes not all of the parts are in one warehouse so you end up getting screwed on the shipping charges. I ordered several Timken bearings one time and they were all scattered across the country among three different warehouses and would have ended up paying three times the shipping costs at 12.00/ea. Just make sure all your parts are coming from the same warehouse when placing an order.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I tried on-line and what i got was a headache. Of course that was partially my fault as the PO converted to disk and i had no real idea of the year of the parts that were on the truck. Still have some of those parts. I found autozone had no clue. O'reilly had everything in stock Moog and they were local. If i got home and it did not fit i had the right part that same day. Just my 2 cents but buy local.

Re: Rockauto MooG vs ECE or Reilly
I just bought all Parts America and you can't see a difference from Moog. They actually have the Moog numbers. Got them at a Bumper to Bumper parts store here in Forest City, NC. And they are suppose to be Made in the USA.
