Best headers for the price???

Ive been thinking about getting a set of headers next summer when i do some changes to my truck and am wondering whats a good set of headers for a decent price. This may be a dumb question but i plan on switching my 307 out to a 350 in the future also so im wondering if the headers will work on the 350 also. My truck is not lowered nor will it be so im not concerned about them hitting the pavement.
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Best headers for the price???

Shorties? Long tube? Ceramic coated? 67 Camaro headers work, you may have to "clearance" the driver side engine mount bracket a little.

Re: Best headers for the price???

I thought flowtechs were cheap until I had to mve the engine back 2" and have a new driveshaft made...... 307 is a sbc 350 is a sbc heaers should fit both.

imho headers or exhaust hanging below the frame is farm truck not hotrod.

Re: Best headers for the price???

These ceramic shorties in the pic are only $333 shipped from Summit. Your are right brad man, it's alot cheaper this way!

I have an old beat up work truck and I can't stand headers that hang.

That's why I've been trollin all these shorty header threads, lol.

Re: Best headers for the price???

I dont mind long headers, i want my truck to look like a old farm trucknot a hot rod. Im basically looking for the easiest best deal for the price headers, im also going to get a custom exhaust made for the truck once i get the headers on and would like it to be as cheapest as possible. I figured they would fit both motors but just wanted to make sure.
Brad man 72, did you have long or short headers, what exactly was the problem you were having with them?

Re: Best headers for the price???

flowtech long tubes for 67-88 chevy 2wd. Even after I moved the engine I had to notch the poop out of the lower control arm. Amost cut through to the bushing. Those headers didn't hang down muchmaybe 2" lower than the frame. I paid good money to have the rest of the exhaust routed through the frame.

I thought it'd be cool to get new headers and exhaust 3 weeks before the street machine nationals. I ended up cruising my moms 4 cylinder s-10.....

Re: Best headers for the price???

Headman makes a long tube that fits really good. Less than $200 from Summit. I don't remember the part # right now, but I am happy with them. 307 3 spd. They don't hang down that far either, only about 2 inches if I remember correctly.

Was there any clearence issues or was it basically just a direct fit bolt in? Do you have any pics?
Thanks!

Re: Best headers for the price???

I want mid length that I don't have to clearance anything for and have a 3/8 thick, or thicker flange!

I drove our 67 vette that was a drag car, 10 flat ride, and the headers hung like 3inches, I had to avoid all the pot holes in the pits, which ain't the easiest...

Plus, headers that hang, just look trashy.

Treveiger; here's a pic of my 68 (Look by the wheelwell). I have a 350 with Standard (long tube) Hedman Hedders with coating and I've lowered my truck 2 inches all the way around. I have Absolutely no clearance issues and they fit like a glove. They were NOT difficult to install at all and were Reasonably priced.

My Headers are not the problem, but its the pipes.
Now I'm gonna have to pay to have the pipes put up inside the Frame.
I'm lowered 5.5" in Front and 6" in the Rear.
The A arms/Headers (collector), have never been a problem,
on Speed-Bumps, Pot Holes, Dips, but it's the Exhaust pipe coming down afterwards.
As soon as this is done, I'll go from 2 1/2" of clearance to about 5"!
