CUCV dually recovery
This old truck thing really is a sickness. Been working on the 54 original mile dually I got a few monthes back but wound up selling the donor truck (can't keep everything). Stumbled across another one that belonged to the Pa DCNR. What the heck, a more complete donor truck that cost me about what I sold the running donor truck for. Actually talked to someone before bidding on it, didn't sound as bad as the description and was complete. Well, brought the truck home yesterday (first pic is of them trying to jump it but batteries deader than a door nail). Truck has 6 like new tires that aren't dry rotted, a spare, an unbent driveshaft (most of the GL trucks get moved around with forklifts), a nice interior, what looks like a "new" engine in it, all good glass, 3 of 4 D rings and a pretty fair body for a 25 year old 45,000 mile truck. Truck is complete under the hood and not missing alternators or the like. This has a Dana 70 rear, Dana 60 front, 4:56s, NP205, TH400, 6.2. Supposedly truck has a bad trans but does work in low. Definitely not a donor truck. Can't wait to see what's wrong with this one!

Re: CUCV dually recovery
I love it. Even though its a dually. Never really seen a cucv with a Civi Dually bed on it before I like the look though! Even with the topper? I usually think its ridiculous, to have that because you have to take it off to haul a 5th wheel.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
Many of the Dually's were a conversion.
In my USAF unit I witnessed four converted from single wheel M1028 Shelter Carriers to A2s for a Safety Bulletin that came out when hauling shelters the TRC-170(V)3 TROPO Scatter Communications System. Don't think any of ours had more than 10K miles on them when we turned them in either.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
Can you imagine what that conversion cost to perform for parts alone.
Just wish I would have been a little more in the know at the time as I was driving a 79 GMC Jimmy and probably could have got the take off parts for nothing. Thanks - Just crossed 30yrs in Sept and still counting.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
I try to keep tabs on the military auctioned vehicles, seems there are quite a few out your way in PA. Saw one of those a while back.
Been looking locally here for something similar. Neat trucks |

Re: CUCV dually recovery
One thing the conversion kit did not include, I take because the military did not want it, was the cab clearance lights and tailgate clearance lights. Thus the reason no CUCV duallys have either.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
4 or 5 CUCVs at a time isn't bad, 4 or 5 Deuces? That would be a problem, here at least lol.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
Another one (M1008) drug home. truck runs. Plow doesn't work (yet), good cutting edge, sat a lot, fisher minute mount newer than truck, might be a donor for the dually. more fun.

Both are very cool trucks but I really like the dually.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
I take it that it has a manual transmission? That is my personal preference. Just wandered how often the military used them. They are definately IRON, no matter what the tranny.

Re: CUCV dually recovery
ALL the Chevy CUCVs no matter what model, had TH400s. Model years 1984-87, produced 1983-86.
