Question Another 700R4 Swap Question

I know many people have asked about swaps but i couldnt find any answering this question. If you have a 2wd pickup and use a 700 out of a 4x4 what it the difference? i know the output shaft is different length but i would have to shorten the driveshaft anyway so what else is different. can you even use a 4x4 700 for a 2wd pickup? and i know about all the TV cable and lockup wiring so im not worrying about that.
Thank you for your time,
Logan

Re: Another 700R4 Swap Question

You can use a 700R4 out of a 4X4 but you will need to change the output shaft to the 4X2 along with adding the tailhousing. The 4X4 has no tailhousing and nothing to seal to the driveshaft, so basicly get a 700R4 from a 4X2. There are more 2wd 700's then 4wd ones, think of all the big GM cars that have 700R4/4L60 before 1993.

Re: Another 700R4 Swap Question

There is a guy near me selling a 4x4 one for $75 so i thought is it isn't too costly i could just swap that stuff. i would have to rebuild it anyway so i thought it might be worth it. does any place sell the tailshaft and different output shafts?
