Got some jewelry today...
Thanks to everyone'e favorite 'man in brown', I received my new Morel Sportsman roller lifters this afternoon for my 468 BBC. Before you ask, yes it is a hyd roller (aka squishy roller, or 'girlie cam' as they refer to them at Team Chevelle). Got these from Chris Straub @ Straub Technologies. He's also cutting me a custom roller cam to make these babies go up and down in a big way. I had my heads flowed, sent him the #'s and my combo down to the last little detail and bit the bullet.
I had my heart set on running a solid roller, since hyd rollers and big blocks usually mean valve float before 6k, but these lifters are supposed to be good to 7k with the right springs (which I'll be getting from him) - he's cutting me a cam for peak power around 6200-6400rpm with a torque curve that hopefully looks like a Duramax diesel . Now I won't have to worry about running valves or inspecting/rebuilding lifters every few months.

With the right spring you shouldn't experience valve float. I have a SBC with hyd roller lifters and had my N/A setup running 7k+ a few times with no issues. Lighter valvetrain components would probably help as well.
Good luck with the combo, a BB runing 6500+ rpms will be nice. Have you done any work to the TKO 500? That's going to be a lot of weight and torque for that trans.

Taking it to Standard Transmission in Ft Worth, TX this coming Tuesday along with my 12 bolt rearend. They're gonna rework the TKO a bit and put some carbon fiber synchro's in it to clean up the high rpm shifting.
I already had the TKO behind the motor before I took it out for this rebuild and it did fine. Supposedly, that 500ft-lb rating is the continuous torque rating, it will handle a peak of 700lb-ft. Same for the TKO600, it is rated at 600 continous, 800 peak. I don't know if all that is bs or not. I do know the guts are the same, just that the 500 has the lower 1st, which I knew would help me get out of the hole a little better with the 3.73's.

Those Lunati's are probably the same type lifters I have, since Morel makes the higher end Lunati HR lifters. Those numbers aren't too far off what Chris Straub said I'd be making. I'm mainly just looking for big, broad torque with a nice little kick upstairs. I'll probably be shifting at 6500rpm on the track, so there was really no point in getting a SR cam other than the bragging rights. Of course all that bragging goes away when you lose a lifter and needle bearings get friendly with the rest of your motor
I did order my springs yesterday, a set of Crowers with 200# on the seat and 560# open. Hopefully I can get this baby up and moving soon, I'm tired of tripping over parts laying in my garage!
